Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik IML

Fraunhofer IML is known as the place for all questions about integrated logistics and is active in all fields in internal and external logistics. Fraunhofer IML was founded in 1981 and currently employs 190 scientists as well as 250 PhD students and undergraduates. It is further supported by colleagues in workshops, laboratories, and service sectors.
Teams put together based on project or customer needs develop cross-sector and customer-specific solutions in fields ranging from material flow technology, warehouse management, business process modelling, and simulation-based business and system planning to traffic systems, resource logistics, and e-business. Fraunhofer IML manages the Internet of Things for all of the Fraunhofer- Gesellschaft institutes. If necessary, IML can draw on the knowledge and expertise of 17 000 employees at the 80 institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
The largest logistics research project in Europe at the moment is EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr with 120 partner companies und 11 research institutions.
In addition to the main location in Dortmund, Fraunhofer IML also has locations in Cottbus, Frankfurt/Main, Prien am Chiemsee, Lisbon, and Peking.
