New warehouse management system for Neckermann BV

16.06.2008

Neckermann BV – the Dutch subsidiary of the German catalogue distributor Neckermann – decided to apply the warehouse management system LFS 400 from the Boppard warehouse expert group Ehrhardt + Partner (E+P) in future.

The program is planned to operate in textile warehouse and distribution centre (for bulky items) in St. Jansteen. The implementation became necessary as Neckermann BV is forcing the business domain of E-Commerce requiring a high-performance system. So far, the company worked with two different WMS solutions. With this new central warehouse management system, Neckermann BV optimises their processes in both warehouses, significantly increases the flexibility of internal activities and guarantees quicker order processing.

Neckermann BV supplies customers in the Netherlands and Belgium with a comprehensive assortment of clothes, home textiles, furniture and electronic items as well as technology. The entire logistic processing for textiles, furniture, and electronic items is realised in two warehouses at the St. Jansteen headquarter. The textiles warehouse disposes of a surface of 1,000 sqm with 90,000 bin locations in shelf storage and for hanging goods. Items from the sections of furniture, household and entertainment technology are stored in the 27,700 sqm distribution centre for bulky items. Every day, about 15,000 shipments leave the textiles warehouse and another 2,000 shipments leave the neighbouring distribution centre. More than 55 % of all orders in the Netherlands are currently received via Internet. Neckermann BV guarantees customers orders received before 9:00 p.m. to be delivered the next day. “This requires an extremely high performing infrastructure which could not be optimally covered with our current system. Neckermann will in future achieve maximum efficiency by two important aspects: firstly, LFS 400 works in real-time, and secondly, we have developed a new order picking strategy together with Neckermann which will permanently accelerate the processes“, Marco Ehrhardt, managing partner of Ehrhardt + Partner explains. In addition, LFS 400 also simplifies the processing of returns. Those have a rate of 30 % (of all orders) in the textiles industry and due to that a big influence on the daily business. LFS 400 will in future cover orders for multipart items, like for instance customer composed suites, with a process called multi-colli-handling. In this handling, the partial units of an item are picked in parallel and the order will only be released when all the item parts are available and provided in the consolidation area.
