125 years of psb – a long-established company with intralogistic visions

Founded as a blacksmith shop by Franz Klein in Pirmasens on 1st September 1887, the name of psb intralogistics stands even today for reliability, quality and security.
A variety of system solutions, in the field of intralogistics, amounts to a variety of challenges. In the course of its 125 years of history, psb recognized early on, that material flow systems couldn’t be implemented by catalogue or »off the shelf«. At the beginning of the 1960s, psb engineers and technicians dealt with material flows in production: In the early stages, exclusively in the field of shoe production, and onwards, from the 1970s, in additional industrial sectors. Solutions for distribution and ultimately a variety of project implementations, in the future market of ecommerce, followed.
With its 125 years of family tradition, psb is testimony to an acceptance of responsibility for its employees, which is characterized by mid-sized businesses, and to readiness for innovations against all odds, joined by a generation-spanning »bridge of knowledge«.
The psb chronicle reflects the thinking of generations »Made in Germany«: founded in 1887 by Franz Klein, as a constructional and repair locksmithery, Robert Ludwig Klein manages the handcraft business in the second generation. Robert Klein developed the company psb in the third generation, with focus on conveying systems and warehouse technology with project realisations all around the globe, in a variety of industries. The fourth generation, now under the lead of Werner Klein, further promotes the future visions in the area of intralogistics like e.g. e-commerce, and confirms the target-oriented strategy of the family-run company.
On the occasion of the anniversary celebrations, at the headquarters in Pirmasens, numerous guests of politics, research, industry and commerce could gain an insight in the future-oriented company strategy: in so-called knowledge centres, psb presented the latest developments of material handling systems in the technology developments’ building and in the production hall. In the newly designed technology area, the psb shuttles vario.sprinter were presented, as well as, the picking station rotapick, a solution for the e-commerce, which has been honoured with the »VDI Innovation Award 2012«. As a world first, psb demonstrated a fully-automated unloading station of the enhanced pouch sorter.
In further knowledge centres, a complete project cycle was vividly explained: from the first conceptual idea, to the first steps in the planning process; from the early stage of a project, up to a live video recording of a service call, between psb and its customer Rolex in Geneva / Biel (Switzerland).
The central ceremony was located in the newly inaugurated production hall. In this 1.500 sqm area, a sheet metal forming centre will be established in the coming months, and next year, an ecologically compatible paint unit, with its own block heating station, will be installed. With this investment programme psb continues its permanent modernisation, under energetic aspects, as well as, for process optimisation. In customer projects, titled with »green efficiency«, psb also sets benchmarks in its own projects, with regard to environmental responsibility – today and in the future.
