The Swiss-based SECURA Group has recently begun construction of a high-automation logistics centre in Burgbernheim, Germany. io consultants was commissioned to take charge of the concept work and realisation of the logistics systems, and has set up an interdisciplinary team of logistics, IT consulting and project management experts for the purpose.
The Swiss-based SECURA Group has recently begun construction of a high-automation logistics centre in Burgbernheim, a small town south of Würzburg in Southern Germany, where one of its subsidiaries, UBB Umformtechnik GmbH has already been headquartered since1993. The newbuild project will boost Burgbernheim’s importance as an attractive location with a high synergy potential for SECURA and secure the Group’s continuing growth. Heidelberg consulting and planning company io‑consultants was commissioned to take charge of the concept work and realisation of the logistics systems, and has set up an interdisciplinary team of logistics, IT consulting and project management experts for the purpose.
The new facilities will accommodate symbiolog, a recently established logistics company within the SECURA holding, and will feature state-of-the-art warehouse management and order picking technologies. The additional logistics capacity is designed to support the further growth of the SECURA Group in national and international markets; central ERP and logistics management will complement and improve the Group’s existing synergies.
symbiolog’s primary target group is manufacturers in the HVAC and sanitary plumbing sectors, but the company will also be offering logistics services such as storage, order picking, distribution, and value added services to companies outside the SECURA Group. »With that in mind, we are planning a logistics centre with efficient automation, comprehensive expansion options, and flexible use of space,« explains Markus Irmler, project manager and managing director of symbiolog. To begin with, around 35 office and production staff will be working in the multifunctional building that spans around 11,000 m² of floor space on the four‑hectare plot of land. Construction is due to start in Q2/2016 and the plant is expected to be working at full capacity by Q3/2017.
The SECURA Group, headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland, is a holding company under which a number of medium-sized, owner-run subsidiaries operate internationally, albeit with a focus on Europe. These companies are primarily active in building automation, infrastructure, offshore technologies/marine engineering equipment, bridge drainage, metal processing and production, tool making, and surface finishing. All enjoy a long-standing market presence and have high expertise in industrial production, marketing and logistics.
At present, the SECURA Group employs more than 700 staff and is expected to generate annual sales exceeding 100 million Euros in 2016. Its 100-strong subsidiary UBB Umformtechnik GmbH in Burgbernheim primarily manufactures industrial stamping parts on a floor area of over 12,000m².
