Handling pet food, seeds, and more at Eric Schweizer AG: A 40 percent increase in process efficiency

Operating from their historic premises in Steffisburg, Switzerland, Eric Schweizer AG puts their trust in the LFS.wms warehouse management system. Thanks to Ehrhardt + Partner’s logistics software, the leading supplier of seeds, fertilizers, and pet food is able to bring order into a sophisticated warehouse structure.

Specialist retailers and professional users of the company’s various market sectors alike benefit from a significant increase in process efficiency while ensuring more secure stock levels and end-to-end batch traceability. Since introducing LFS.wms, the Swiss supplier has been conducting inventory checks during regular operations.

Eric Schweizer AG produces and sells seeds for agriculture, products for lawns and green areas, and food and grooming products for pets. The company operates five branch offices all across Switzerland, as well as a laboratory for soil and environmental analyses. Founded in 1840, SCHWEIZER maintains stocks of more than 4,000 different items and raw materials in Steffisburg, at a site that is steeped in tradition. The warehouse processes take place in the production and in the shipping area. Up until now, staff have been picking orders using a paper-based system. On premises that are partially listed as a historic landmark, the warehouse is separated into a newly constructed area and into the shipping area. »We wanted to see our sophisticated warehouse structure reflected in state-of-the-art logistics software, and to simplify our processes as a result. Our most important goal was to ensure more secure stock levels,« Markus Joss explains, Warehouse Manager at Eric Schweizer AG. »LFS has allowed us to achieve that goal. Furthermore, our staff also benefit as their work is considerably easier.«

Keeping an eye on stock levels

With the LFS.wms warehouse management system, Eric Schweizer AG have standardized and modernized their logistics processes. This Swiss company with a long tradition benefits from significantly more secure stock levels and an end-to-end batch traceability that is maintained throughout the entire workflow. To manage and handle logistics processes in the shipping area (that includes 6,600 bin locations), staff use mobile data recording equipment and pick-by-voice. This allows stock levels to be recorded in real-time and to be accessible at all times, also making it easier to conduct inventory checks. Even during seasonal peaks, where the number of orders may go as high as 180 a day, SCHWEIZER continues conducting inventory checks in tandem with day-to-day operations and without requiring any warehouse downtime. With LFS.wms, process efficiency increases by up to 40 percent.
