AXELOT WMS X5 goes live at the DC of a large FMCG distributor in Georgia

09.11.2021

The latest version of Axelot’ WMS was successfully launched at the facility of Sharm Trading company in Tbilisi as of September 2021. The use of an out-of-the box solution without modifications made it possible to automate all the main technological and business processes of the food storage facilty in just three months.

Sharm Trading is a leading distribution company in Georgia in the field of FMCG (fast moving consumer goods). The company is currently distributing products of a number of well-known brands such as Unilever, Henkel, Schwarzkopf & Henkel, Eczacibasi, Tchibo, SCA, Carlsberg, 3M and others. The business is actively developing, motivating the company's management to digitalize business processes. The need for more efficient warehouse processes prompted the management of Sharm Trading to implement a modern high-performance WMS solution. Previously, the company had experience in using WMS from a Dutch vendor, but the system was not flexible, poorly adapted to changes in warehouse processes, besides the company had issues with receiving after-sales technical support. After analyzing the WMS systems offered on the market, the choice was made in favor of AXELOT WMS X5, and AXELOT specialists were engaged in solving the issues on the project. The pilot implementation took place at one of the Sharm Trading warehouses in Tbilisi. Warehouse area is about 2000 sq. m. As part of the project, it was necessary to optimize the work of the warehouse, automate all key business processes, and provide online control and management of the warehouse.

The global pandemic also played a role in the way the project was carried out. Due to the existing limitations, the first stages of WMS implementation were carried out remotely, which required well-coordinated work from the project teams. The launch of the automated warehouse was carried out with the personal presence of AXELOT specialists. Within the framework of the project, all key warehouse processes were automated, including receiving from a customs warehouse, Georgian bar-code labels printing, track and trace of storage dates, cluster picking, 100% control of dispatch. Thanks to the use of an out-of-the-box solution without a single revision, all processes were automated in a short notice - all stages of the project were kept within three months. Within the framework of the project, all logistics processes of the company were integrated into a single circuit - using the data bus DATAREON ESB, Axelot WMS X5, and Axelot TMS X4 and 3rd party ERP systems were integrated. The WMS installation included 5 stationary and 40 mobile workplaces for operators and managers.

Result of the implementation: increase in transparency of business processes and significant reduction of the influence of the human factor. The results of the pilot project completely satisfied the management of Sharm Trading. Next step – scaling of AXELOT WMS X5 across the entire network of company’s warehouses in Georgia.
