ARC Advisory Group Names Manhattan Associates as No. 1 WMS Vendor in Asia

15.05.2009

Investments in both new and existing markets pay off with record regional revenues in 2008 establishing Manhattan as Asia's leading WMS supplier

Leading industry analyst organisation ARC Advisory Group has for the first time ranked Manhattan Associates as the leading Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) supplier in Asia, defined by ARC to include Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and South East Asia. Manhattan's achievement is revealed in ARC Advisory Group's Warehouse Management Systems Worldwide Outlook, Market Analysis and Forecast Through 2013. The accolade, based on total revenues, comes on the back of a record year for the company in the region in 2008 which saw Manhattan's Asia-Pacific (APAC) licence revenue increase 150% over the corresponding figure for 2007. This was achieved despite the challenging economic climate that presented itself during the course of the year.

More than thirty companies from the APAC region became new customers or extended their business relationship with Manhattan Associates during 2008. This success was a result of the combined efforts of 130 plus in-region Manhattan company associates and a growing number of partner resources who, with the backing of over 2,000 additional Manhattan employees located around the world, are focussed on serving clients across Asia-Pacific.

During 2008, Manhattan Associates in APAC reached several key milestones and recorded a number of significant customer and business successes:

  • Became Asia's number one WMS vendor (ARC Advisory Group);
  • Expanded its customer base to more than 80 companies bringing the total number of sites served by Manhattan's WMS and other distribution management applications to more than 150 in ten countries across the region. With almost 100 WMS implementations alone, 2008 was a record year for the number of go-lives in APAC;
  • Named 'Best IT Systems Vendor for Warehouse Management' at the 2008 ASEAN Frost & Sullivan Transportation & Logistics Awards;
  • Extended its success in China with key wins at several of China's leading retailers, such as Metersbonwe, and made great progress on a number of existing projects including a 50+ site roll-out of Manhattan ILS to the domestic China DC network of leading 3PL Tingtong Logistics;
  • Other customers from across the region — including Australian online auctioneer Grays, Indonesian retail giant Matahari, Japanese 3PL operator Seiwa Kaiun and New Zealand wines distributor Wineworks — all rolled out Manhattan solutions, whilst a significant number of customers completed smooth system upgrades allowing them to benefit from new functionality and added optimisation capabilities available in new product releases;
  • Had several household brands with worldwide distribution networks standardise their supply chain operations on Manhattan Associates in APAC as part of a global roll-out of the Manhattan supply chain platform to complement existing SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) capabilities;
  • With the 'Certified for Microsoft Dynamics' status that comes with Manhattan ILS and gives Microsoft Dynamics AX customers a proven solution with independently tested integration, Manhattan has seen a rapid acceleration in the number of Dynamics users across the APAC region selecting Manhattan ILS as their supply chain solutions platform of choice;
  • Seen further regional success with its Transportation Lifecycle Management (TLM) suite following contract awards from the world's leading paper and packaging company and a leading regional retailer; and with Extended Enterprise Management following a contract award from Natasha, a leading direct selling company in the Philippines.

Keith Dolling, director of Distribution & Logistics at Matahari Food Business, a division of Matahari Group and a member of the Independent Grocers Alliance (IGA), commented, "Manhattan Associates has been a strategic technology partner for Matahari over the last 5 years. Having recently completed a rapid and successful systems upgrade as well as invested in additional optimisation components from Manhattan's solutions portfolio, we believe we have the tools that will help us keep pace with the dynamic retail industry not just within Indonesia but further afield in Asia as we look to expand our operations in the region. Given Manhattan's investment and presence throughout Asia-Pacific, the backing it has from a worldwide operation, and the quality of its people and products, I'm not at all surprised that Manhattan has earned this key analyst accolade and expect it will serve as a springboard to further regional success for the company in the years ahead."

Jeff Baum, Manhattan Associates' senior vice president, International (APAC), credits the company's employees and its growing partner network with the success the APAC business unit has experienced in 2008. "We are proud of both our own and our partner employees who work extremely hard to serve Manhattan customers all over the APAC region. Our success in the APAC region is a result of staying focused on distribution management, strengthening our partnerships, and providing our customers with a strong payback on their investment in Manhattan Associates' range of integrated supply chain optimisation solutions. As companies face up to the local and global challenges presented by the current, unprecedented economic conditions, we see good supply chain systems as critical not just to survive the downturn but thrive when the upturn comes. We and our partners want to work closely to help Manhattan customers be supply chain leaders."
