KNAPP presents OSR Shuttle solutions with Pick-it-Easy workstations

  • System solutions with focus on OSR ShuttleTM technology
  • KNAPP presents new Pick-it-Easy work station
  • Fashion logistics and food/retail solutions expanded
  • Brand new: free moving open shuttles

The preparations for CeMAT 2011 are running full speed ahead. Sustainable, innovative products such as the all-in-one system solutions are the focus of KNAPP's presence at the trade fair for five days between May 2 and 6, 2011. "We again expect a tremendous number of visitors and real optimism among visitors and exhibitors. Most importantly, at this fair we meet with the decision makers, which is the undisputed mark of quality for CeMAT. Similar to years past, this year we will install two complete systems at the exhibition stand," said Gerald Hofer, KNAPP AG Managing Board.

KiDesign for goods-to-person solutions

The motto for CeMAT 2011 is Sustainability in Intralogistics. Because of the rising costs of energy and raw materials, and against the backdrop of the current climate debates, the topic of sustainability is a particular challenge in the intralogistics sector.

KNAPP also pays a great deal of attention to ergonomic analysis and applies the findings to the design of the product. From this work KiDesign was developed, an intelligent design for goods-to-person solutions, fashioned according to the principles of ergonomics, ergo-dynamics and multi-functionality.

In the OSR Shuttle™, the customer has a warehouse system especially distinguished by its energy efficiency. The power requirements are less than ten percent of the energy consumed by a conventional automated small parts warehouse. Efficiency measures have been consistently implemented in a unified concept. In 2003, one of the world's first power management systems for stacker cranes was realized at fashion shoe manufacturer Clarks in Great Britain. In addition to the standard energy recuperation from the braking process, sophisticated software is employed that reduces the necessary connected loads and ongoing power requirements without loss of performance in the storage system.

One of the principal reasons for the efficient overall system is the low weight of the individual shuttles. A shuttle weighs hardly more than the load it transports. The perfectly adjusted software controls all the components with millisecond precision. The result: high precision and reliability as well as extremely low energy consumption.

All-in-Shuttle

Because of the variety of technologies and the design freedom of the OSR Shuttles™, KNAPP offers systems that are tailor-made to fit the customer’s requirements. The OSR Shuttle™ offers the highest storage capacity and even quadruple deep storage in floored racks. By applying the draw-in technique of the telescope arms, during which the load carrier is manipulated without vertical movement, precise and extremely fast retrieval times can be achieved. All the main processes, especially storage, consolidation, sequencing, buffering, picking and handling of returns can be realized with the OSR Shuttle™.

Premier for Pick-it-Easy

The new Pick-it-Easy work stations will be presented at the CeMAT fair for the first time. Three different stations, special solutions for folded garments in the fashion sector, and food and retail applications will be presented at KNAPP's exhibition stand. The Pick-it-Easy work station product family considers a multitude of ergonomic aspects, with absolutely no loss in performance. Furthermore, with the intelligent control system an error-free order preparation of up to 1,000 order positions per man-hour can be achieved. With the touch screen at the centre of the work station, the operator is able to keep his head straight and has an ideal visual angle. Since all displays are within an optimal visual field, every process can be identified at a single glance.

Open shuttles instead of conveyors

In Hanover, KNAPP will be exhibiting the free moving shuttles for the first time. With further innovation, these open shuttles will have a lasting influence on the logistics sector. Without rails, the open shuttle can exit the storage aisles to directly supply the work stations. A warehouse without a conveyor system is therefore possible, which makes future solutions highly flexible.
