Depot Management System for the Hamburger Hochbahn AG Bus Operations

16.02.2012

The PSI subsidiary PSI Transcom GmbH has been charged by the HanseCom GmbH as the general contractor with the supply, implementation and commissioning of the PSItraffic depot management system for the Hamburger Hochbahn AG.

After having successfully completed the specifications of work, the implementation of the system has already begun.

With the implementation of the new system, the dispatch of the vehicles will be automated at Hamburger Hochbahn AG’s five bus depots. This includes an optimized control and handling of the vehicle management that, amongst other things, comprises the kilometer-based fuelling of the vehicles. PSI will employ the Qualicision® module, which is already in use at other public transportation companies, for the optimization of the dispatching.

Improvements in operations will also be achieved for the drivers, especially through information such as departure tables and access displays with parking places and consideration of special requirements of the vehicle. Along with securing a quick exchange of information between the garage run by a Hochbahn subsidiary and the bus operations, PSI will also implement a comprehensive tracking of the vehicles at all the bus depots. One of the project’s special challenges is in the integration of the system into the various existing information and control systems.

The HanseCom GmbH is a joint venture of Siemens AG and Hamburger Hochbahn AG. The company’s focus is on IT consulting services for companies in the field of public transportation. HanseCom is the responsible service provider for the DP operations at Hamburger Hochbahn and therefore charged with the procurement and introduction of the system.

The Hamburger Hochbahn AG is, with more than 4,400 employees and well over a million passengers daily, the second largest public transportation company in Germany as well as the largest partner in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV). The Hochbahn is wholly-owned by the Free and Hansa City of Hamburg.
