New viad@t release makes warehouse processes even more efficient

02.03.2015

What’s new in viad@t 7.6?

Resources management

The latest version of the viastore WMS, version 7.6 features a resource management dialog. The goal is to predict the throughput time of orders, taking into account the current workload with changing resources. To this end, the WMS pre-calculates the processing time for all activities at all work centers and, based on this calculation, distributes the planned activities to the work centers according to the WMS dispatching strategy. This makes it possible to specify the utilization of work centers on the one hand and the expected order completion time on the other. The display lists the resources (work centers) and illustrates the utilization graphic ally in a bar chart. The temporal assessment of the individual activities is possible due to master data stored in the WMS, which take into account specific influencing factors and define the necessary time constants and factors.

Variable storage

Corresponding to the storage of multiple-deep load units, it is now also possible to store containers of multiple height and multiple width. If a load unit extends over several storage locations, it will be assigned to the storage location with the smallest coordinate; the other locations will be temporarily blocked by the WMS. This means that that load units can expand across multiple storage locations in all three spatial dimensions. Multiple-width storage replaces the previous rigid double- or triple-width storage. A combination of multiple-depth and multiple-width load units is also possible.

Connection of shipping systems

The WMS now has a generic approach for the connection of shipping systems, in which communication with the respective shipping system is encapsulated in classes. In concrete terms, this means that the positions at which data is transmitted to the shipping systems remain unchanged. It is only the implementation of system-specific communication that is individual for each shipping system.

System monitoring

To enable more convenient utilization-based system mainten ance for example, the WMS automatically records technical system data of any control (e.g. operating time of AS/RS), and archives the data, thus allowing an evaluation.

Printing of customer documents with external programs

Another requirement arising during daily use was to enable the printing of system operators’ documents, such as product information, via the WMS. To this end, external programs are integrated into the existing printing system, so that the documents can be printed in their proprietary formats. The print menu is called up from the WMS business processes via the report server so the strengths of the original printing system can still be used.

Generation of new reports

viad@t release 7.6 offers a generic print function so that every list and every label can be regenerated by entering the relevant data.
