Viessmann replaces previous proprietary warehouse system

09.12.2015

Process optimization and smooth system transition thanks to inconso: Replacing the 15-year-old warehouse management and material flow system, Viessmann migrated to SAP EWM.

Since 1998, Viessmann Logistik International GmbH operates a central goods distribution center in Allendorf (Eder) delivering goods to the companies in the Viessmann Group in the regional warehouses worldwide as well as German customers. For the replacement of the 15-year-old warehouse management and material flow system, Viessmann decided to completely migrate to SAP EWM. The inconso AG was responsible for the successful implementation and startup of SAP EWM.

In the goods distribution center, the SAP solution closed several existing, functional gaps, e.g. the design of a standardized quality management and the reliable tracking of serial numbers. Simultaneously, the material flow system for the extensive conveyor technology system was replaced, which is used around the clock in all areas from the production areas through to the Goods Receiving for finished goods. The migration to SAP EWM in ongoing 24 hour operation was a complex challenge. Smooth system migration was ensured using a phased concept and various test strategies such as Goods Issue simulations and system tests in the production system.

Since then, Viessmann profits from the close integration of SAP ERP and SAP EWM for the variation of warehouse processes and the high transparency in monitoring. Logistics process efficiency has increased. »We were able to increase our target figures in the various warehouse areas by up to 10 percent because the system stores out stock faster and the employees work well with the new work center dialogs,« states Peter Löwer, Manager of Distribution Logistics Germany of Viessmann Logistik International GmbH.
