PSI implements IT for Claas Group Extension Project

28.05.2013

PSI subsidiary PSI Logistics GmbH has successfully integrated the complete warehousing and control processes in the extended spare parts distribution centre of the Claas Group in the existing warehouse management system.

The expansion of the system went into operation at the beginning of April 2013. With this project the Claas Group, one of the leading international producers of farm machinery, headquartered in Harsewinkel, have placed their worldwide spare parts logistics on an efficient basis. To that end, the automatic small parts warehouse (SPW) of the distribution centre at the Hamm-Uentrop site has been extensively extended and equipped with new materials handling technology. PSI Logistics was awarded the contract for the IT customisation. The new warehousing and control processes for maintaining efficiency of the modernised system were integrated into the existing warehouse management system in a period of six months under operational conditions.

The operator of the system is the CS Parts Logistics GmbH, a joint venture of the Claas Service and Parts GmbH and the Bremen logistics service provider Stute Logistics GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Kühne & Nagel Group. A total of 60,000 additional storage places are available in the four new aisles of the extended SPW. More than 100,000 articles are stored in the entire warehouse. In the framework of the extension project, PSI connected a new materials flow computer and the coordinated process control for the expanded SPW and the additional new materials handling technology to the old system. In addition, the modernised warehouse management system manages the processes of a fully-automated commissioning buffer with 400 container places and a new pre-zone with a container loop for supplying the entire SPW and seven new commissioning working places pick-to-light system.

The extended functional scope of the WMS assures, amongst other things with newly designed commissioning dialogues and to & from bin transfer strategies for optimised order handling, for greater density and increased flow through in the distribution centre of the farm machinery producer. With the WMS extensions, more than 10,000 shipping note positions can be reliably processed each day. With that the WMS assures long-term the maintenance of the Claas service level even with an increased variety of parts and growing order volumes.
