Russian Sberbank recognized for business efficiency

Successful thanks to the latest state-of-the-art warehousing technology

Russia’s largest credit institution, OAO Sberbank, has received an award from rating agency Expert RA in recognition of its high level of business efficiency. Thanks to deploying state-of-the-art warehousing technology, the bank was able to significantly improve its business processes and increase the productivity of its staff. Among other factors, a fully automated document archiving system from intralogistics specialist viastore was instrumental in achieving this progress.

Situated southeast of Moscow, the central archive of Sberbank covers about 15,000 square meters of floor space. Here the credit institution stores all the documents related to customers from the central federal district of the Russian Federation – in a total of two million cartons. This huge volume of paper is stored in a 16-aisle automated tray warehouse, supplied and installed by viastore systems as a turnkey installation. The viad@tWMS software ensures smooth warehouse operations – no easy undertaking since the Sberbank branch offices request access to between 2,000 and 3,000 of the archived documents each and every day.

The storage and retrieval of cartons is fully automatic through viaspeed XL storage/retrieval machines, a conveyor lane and a total of eight robots. With this solution implemented by viastore systems, Sberbank now benefits from a higher level of transparency for all the files in addition to being able to access them much more quickly than before. The bank was able to reduce the processing time from the former three or four weeks to just a few days or even a matter of hours.

“Implementing new technologies based on lean manufacturing principles has enabled Sberbank to raise the efficiency of its staff by 50 percent,” says Dmitry Grishankov, CEO at Expert RA. “This means that Sberbank occupies fifth position in our nation-wide Expert-400 ranking and has every chance of making it to the Top Three in the next few years. The ranking is published every year as part of the business forum “Expert-400: Who creates the Russian economy?”
