Kewill Boosts Green Credentials of Multimodal Transportation Platform

09.09.2014

Supply chain execution software expanded to provide in-depth CO2 tracking and reporting and improved carrier selection and planning capabilities

Kewill, a leading provider of innovative software for supply chain execution, has announced enhancements to its Kewill MOVE® multimodal transportation platform that will enable in-depth, accurate measurement of the carbon footprint of shipments and further improve efficiency as sustainability and carbon footprint move up the corporate agenda.

Kewill MOVE is a comprehensive platform for managing the complexities of transportation, logistics and trade compliance, with multimodal capabilities a key differentiator. The latest enhancements are designed to meet increasing demand from shippers looking to accurately measure their environmental impact and who are in turn demanding that their logistics partners have the ability to reliably measure CO2 emissions for goods they move on their behalf.

The Kewill software will now enable shippers and LSPs to accurately report on CO2 usage by collating detailed information about the multimodal trip(s) undertaken and the vehicle or vessel used, calculating and allocating the total emissions for each trip to the individual shipments under transportation. The software integrates easily with third-party mapping software to obtain route data but can also manually register distances, allowing for technical problems and exceptions such as detours, or when coverage is limited.

A new carrier selection module enables proactive selection of road carriers based on key variables including price, quality, lead time, capacity and lane, ensuring the most efficient option is always chosen. The module allows users to define carriers per lane and carrier capacity as well as building loads either manually or automatically. Orders are managed electronically, with requests handled via EDI, email or via an optional online vendor portal.

The platform’s graphical planning board has also been expanded to display scheduled shipments, stops and required equipment, enabling users to optimize efficiency when planning trips.

»Supply chain businesses are under increasing pressure to disclose metrics around sustainability. The expanded functionality within the Kewill MOVE platform will make collating, analyzing and reporting the correct information for CO2 emissions simple for our customers,« said Evan Puzey, chief marketing officer at Kewill. »Additionally, extended planning and carrier selection will also enable LSPs and shippers to further drill down into route and capacity planning to drive even greater efficiency.«
