Construction work begins on expansion of EVER Pharma’s site in Jena

13.10.2017

EVER Pharma Jena GmbH held its ground-breaking ceremony for new aseptic production facilities at its Jena Lobeda site on 11 October 2017. The project is worth around €100 million and is being completed with the support of consulting and planning company io-consultants from Heidelberg. io-consultants, whose experience in process planning for EVER reaches back to 1995, is responsible for the plant’s process technology and automation, from the concept through to qualification.

EVER needed to expand the site as the present facilities had reached peak capacity. Once the new lines are operating, production can be increased to up to 130 million filled units per year. »The new aseptic filling will contain sterile and aseptic preparation areas with insulator technology and be absolutely state-of-the-art,« says Dr. Gregor Dudziak, member of the management board and partner at io-consultants. All areas of the sterile production will, of course, comply with the stringent FDA and EU GMP guidelines on pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The fully automated high-bay warehouse and assembly and packing facilities – newly installed in 2015 – will also be connected to the new production area.
»Right from the beginning, we put a major focus on flexibility to enable fast batch changes and to minimise setup times. The equipment has accordingly been designed to be very compact and with everything in easy reach,« explains Dr. Manfred Nussbaumer, head of engineering at EVER Pharma. Completion is scheduled for 2021. The flexibility aspect will secure the site’s future for many years to come.

EVER Pharma Jena GmbH, a member of the worldwide EVER Pharma Group, produces and assembles high-grade ampoule products, vials and pre-filled syringes, and manufactures innovative implants for third-parties. The company employs around 700 staff around the world and delivers its products to more than 50 countries.
