Australian DVD distributor extends confidence in Manhattan Associates with supply chain system upgrade

Global supply chain optimisation provider, Manhattan Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: MANH), has announced that Australian customer, Magna Home Entertainment has undergone a significant upgrade of its industry-leading Warehouse Management solution. The renewed investment is testament to Manhattan Associates' growing strength in Australia and across the wider Asia Pacific market.

Magna Home Entertainment, a leading independent DVD distributor in Australia and New Zealand, was the first Australian customer to go live with Manhattan Associates' logistics execution system, Manhattan SCALE™: Supply Chain Architected for Logistics Execution when it was made available in the local market in 2006.

Having successfully used Manhattan SCALE to manage its entire warehouse management operations for almost three years, Magna made the decision to upgrade to the latest version of the platform following its recent acquisition by film and television production group, Beyond International. Magna wanted to integrate its warehouse management system with a number of core business systems being used by its new parent company. Among these include its Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system, which enables group subsidiaries to exchange data electronically with trading partners.

Commenting on the rationale for the upgrade, Chris Bailey, national operations & IT manager, Magna Home Entertainment, explained, "Given the pivotal role that Manhattan SCALE plays in helping us manage our day-to-day warehouse operations, we recognised an immediate need to integrate the SCALE platform with the core systems being used by our new parent company."

"Given that some key customers such as Kmart and Big W use a different trading system, it was imperative we integrate Manhattan SCALE into the EDI system used by Beyond International so that they too could realise some of the instant benefits from the platform," he explained.

Magna also wanted to leverage a number of enhanced capabilities added to the upgraded SCALE platform. In particular it was impressed with the increased flexibility of Manhattan SCALE and the ease with which it could integrate with the back-end database used by Beyond International.

Additionally, Magna saw value in the pre-existing interface between the company's enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Manhattan SCALE, leveraging the Microsoft.NET framework. This interface enables Manhattan SCALE to link effortlessly with the company's finance and sales ordering systems, providing greater visibility and optimisation throughout its entire supply chain.

"Ultimately, we are and continue to be highly impressed with the flexible nature and integration strength of the Manhattan SCALE platform. As part of this upgrade we have successfully integrated a number of key business processes, and have remained fully optimal from an operational perspective throughout."

"As the first Australian customer to go live with Manhattan SCALE, I think we have acted as a poster child for the platform over the past three years, as we have enjoyed nothing but complete success since deploying it. In addition our recent upgrade of the platform has been a huge success. We only have positive things to say about Manhattan and the continuous support it provides to customers," Bailey continued.

Also commenting on the upgrade, Chris Stephenson, managing director of Manhattan Associates in Australia and New Zealand said, "The strength, flexibility and robust nature of our solutions keep our customers coming back time and again. In this instance Magna Home Entertainment required an upgrade that involved a strong integration component and Manhattan were on board to provide guidance and support throughout the entire process. We are delighted to be extending our relationship with Magna, a highly reputable player in the DVD distribution market locally."
