Newell Rubbermaid Optimizes European Supply Chain with Manhattan Associates

03.10.2011

Manhattan Associates has announced that Newell Rubbermaid, the global marketer of consumer and commercial products, is reaping the rewards of a successful install of Manhattan Associates’ WMS at it's distribution center in Żerniki near Poznań in Poland.

Newell Rubbermaid’s EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) operations are supported by 13 distribution centers (DCs) spread across the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and Poland. Six of the 13 DCs in EMEA now use the Manhattan WMS, including the Poland DC which serves as a radial hub for distributing tool products across continental Europe and office products across Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Arkadiusz Nowak, Distribution Center manager at Newell Rubbermaid, commented, “With our consistent focus on streamlining and improving our global supply chain to maximise efficiency, performance and service quality, the Poznań implementation has provided our Polish operation with a world-class supply chain system that has already improved productivity levels, reduced order cycle times, eliminated wasted mileage and raised overall service levels.”

Nowak continued, “The implementation was conducted as part of Newell Rubbermaid’s broader strategy to synchronise its global operations on a single supply chain systems platform. In addition to successful deployments of Manhattan’s system at several of our other EMEA DCs, we’ve been a long-term user of Manhattan’s systems in the USA and we run their solution in a number of our DCs in that market also.”

With many successful installs already under its belt, the Poznań implementation has provided Newell Rubbermaid’s Poland DC with a WMS that seamlessly complements its existing ERP platform and IT infrastructure.

The productivity improvements, mileage reduction and compressed cycle times enabled by the Manhattan technology have allowed the company to make some significant cost savings. Since adopting the system, the distribution center has become more flexible, is processing an increased number of consignments each month and the company has been able to improve overall service levels it provides to its clients.

Steve Smith, senior vice president, EMEA, at Manhattan Associates added, “We see Eastern Europe as a key growth market for Manhattan and so we were delighted to have been invited to help develop a system for Newell Rubbermaid’s Poland operation. We’re also pleased to see the project is already delivering some strong results and look forward to continuing to support the company through the next phases of its supply chain optimization program.”
