New multichannel warehouse for Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) in Poland

The Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) retail warehouse in Poznan (Poland) has been extended with an additional building for fulfilling e-commerce orders as well as efficient processing of returns.

Vanderlande Industries was main contractor for the complete material handling system. This new warehouse enables H&M to further improve its customer service and responsiveness and to handle future growth.

The material handling system processes the entire goods flow through the warehouse, from receiving, inbound sortation to quality inspection and palletising. The main flow is directed to a QUICKSTORE miniload AS/RS carton storage area with 17 cranes, where over 300,000 cartons are stored (multi-deep). From storage, cartons are sent to the order picking area for fast movers, where 8 QUICKSTORE HDS shuttle systems distribute the cartons to several thousand flow racks. The miniload AS/RS storage area also replenishes the existing picking area, where slow-moving cartons are stored in static racks. After picking is completed products are sent to a number of packing tables, where they are packed either in plastic bags or cartons depending on their volume. The packed products are then directed to a CROSSORTER 900 crossbelt sorter, which sorts the products to a large number of destinations. The existing returns handling area has been modified and its capacity more than doubled to enable future volume growth.

The site is operational 24 hours per day. Vanderlande industries is represented at H&M by local service managers dealing with the on-site maintenance carried out by a five-shift crew of H&M service engineers.
