Follow-up order from logistics service provider 2XL NV in Belgium

16.07.2015

With the new 8-aisle high-bay warehouse from SSI Schaefer, 2XL will increase its storage capacity to around 65,000 pallet storage locations. Fully automatic processes, pallet handling on two levels and an interface to the existing warehouse complex increases the efficiency and level of service that the provider offers.

The transport and logistics service provider 2XL NV has its headquarters in Zeebrugge, Belgium, and is one of the leading contract service providers for the British market. It has once again commissioned SSI Schaefer to install a high-bay warehouse (HBW) in its international consolidation and distribution centre in Zeebrugge. The 8-aisle HBW will be able to offer 32,320 pallet storage locations for the double-deep storage of industrial or euro pallets. This means that in future the Zeebrugge-based logistics service provider will have more than 65,000 pallet storage locations available for the consolidation of goods and transport. »We wanted the best solution and stability and reliability of the system and company«, is how 2XL owner Jean Van den Poel justified the placement of the order. »For us, SSI Schaefer is the number 1 in the intralogistics market and a reliable partner.«

Once the system is installed, the fully automatic storage and retrieval processes will be carried out using eight energy-efficient Exyz storage and retrieval machines. Process control is handled by the WAMAS® logistics software, which is also included in the scope of supply of SSI Schaefer. Pallet handling takes place on two levels that are connected to each other by a conveying system and vertical conveyors. The HBW will also be linked with the existing conveying system of the current logistics building that the system supplier SSI Schaefer in cooperation with the company Ceratec installed for 2XL back in 2012.

In Zeebrugge, 2XL consolidates deliveries from central European production facilities for several customers and supplies their regional distribution centres in Great Britain around the clock. A total of 700 different articles are stored in the state-of-the-art complex. Every day, up to 8,400 pallets pass through goods-in and goods-out. The new HBW is scheduled to open in the middle of 2016.
