LFS for Delmax: LFS manages spare parts logistics for the whole of Serbia

15.06.2016

From spark plugs to drain plugs for oil pans – the Serbian company Delmax stores spare parts for all vehicles registered in the country. The company now organizes and manages the spare parts warehouse using the warehouse management system LFS from Ehrhardt + Partner (E+P).

Together with Delmax, an E+P project team consisting of experts from Germany, the Ukraine, Czech Republic and Portugal adapted the system to the customer’s individual processes. The result of this international cooperation: improved paths for putaway and picking as well as increased picking efficiency. From goods receiving to goods dispatch, all processes in the 5,000m² warehouse are managed by LFS, safely and flexibly. For E+P, the first project in Serbia was a great success.

From their warehouse in Stara Pazova, the spare parts wholesaler supplies Delmax shops, repair shops and gas stations. But the warehouse also sells spare parts to service customers. The company’s high service standard results in a need for elaborate and efficient logistics processes. Following detailed consultations with Delmax, the international E+P project team found the perfect solution for their Serbian customer. »The project was coordinated by the Prague office«, reports Jürgen Ortel, project manager at E+P. »Thanks to our international network, we can implement LFS projects all over the world. Our teams work together closely, regardless of their location. This allows us to offer custom solutions with safe and flexible processes for customers from all over the world.«

Stock reliability and improved picking
A huge number of items is stored in the small parts area. Before the implementation of LFS, pick lists were used to pick up to 20,000 items for an average of 650 orders, which was a very time-consuming process. LFS has replaced the in-house database and now optimizes the employees’ paths for putaway and picking. Delmax always stores 73,000 items. The warehouse, however, only provides 40,000 bin locations. The E+P experts mapped the warehouse structure in LFS and carried out an ABC analysis. The system now continuously monitors the number of items in the warehouse and the bin location in which they are stored. This way, Delmax profits from increased stock reliability. In addition, the picking quality has significantly increased, as the pickers now use handheld terminals to confirm the quantities picked.

Comprehensive experience
Thanks to LFS, Delmax can flexibly react to customer requirements and the picking processes in the warehouse have become more efficient. For the project implementation, the international E+P team could rely on the experience gained from many other projects from the spare parts sector. This way, Delmax can fulfill their customers’ high requirements, store spare parts for the whole of Serbia and offer just-in-time delivery.
