inconsoWMS X Controls Distribution Center of MEPHISTO

Warehouse management system inconsoWMS eXtended is used by French shoe manufacturer MEPHISTO

At the end of 2015, the shoe manufacturer MEPHISTO decided to implement a new WMS, namely the efficient warehouse management system inconsoWMS eXtended (aka inconsoWMS X). In doing so, the company especially aims to improve the customer-oriented response times and service quality. In just a few weeks, a French inconso project team completed all necessary function analyses and configurations. The system was then implemented in two steps in the MEPHISTO distribution center at the site in Sarrebourg: The first step comprised goods receiving (2016), the second goods issue and shipping (2017).

The shoe manufacturer particularly relies on process extensions in goods receiving. Thanks to the flexible configuration options, quality inspections in goods receiving also consider customer-specific quality requirements. In order to better handle seasonal peaks, a cross-docking process was integrated. The prepared packages are stored until the customer’s desired shipping date so that the picking steps necessary for shipping preparation are reduced to a minimum. In addition, two picking strategies were implemented in the goods issue area. Firstly, picking occurs in large quantities via a pick and pack process and secondly, small quantities are picked in a two step process with consolidated removals and subsequent distribution to the order compartments.

Moreover, a conveyor system was connected that carries goods containers from their respective picking levels to the further work areas. Shipping labels are attached along the conveyor segment, which almost fully replaces manual labeling at MEPHISTO. The warehouse management system inconsoWMS X lastly guides each package to its respective staging zone.
