MCA LOGISTICS goes live with ALDATA G.O.L.D. warehouse management

15.04.2009

Specialty grocery 3PL leverages G.O.L.D. to optimize automation across managed warehouses and to push inventory replenishment to 250 grocery stores

Aldata Solution, a leading provider of software solutions for the retail industry, announced today that MCA Logistics, a third-party logistics provider dedicated to servicing grocery customers, has gone live with Aldata G.O.L.D. in a customer’s Phoenix, Ariz., distribution center. The Phoenix DC will be a training center for facility managers at three additional warehouses, which all will convert to G.O.L.D. by February 2010.

In each customer warehouse, G.O.L.D. is replacing a 20-year-old, homegrown legacy system. Altogether, the four DCs service a total of 250 stores west of the Mississippi for one grocery chain. The G.O.L.D. Warehouse Management System (WMS) provides multi-site, multi-organizational, multi-principal, multi-system and multi-lingual capabilities for the management, control, execution and processing of logistics operations.

“When it was time to upgrade the WMS systems in these four customer warehouses, MCA Logistics selected Aldata G.O.L.D. because of its grocery industry expertise,” said Robert Camarena, president of MCA Logistics. “At a time when more grocery chains plan to simplify their operations and get out of the warehousing business, G.O.L.D. gives us the power to cost-effectively assume inventory replenishment activities for our grocery customers with more accuracy and speed than ever before.”

MCA Logistics has integrated G.O.L.D. WMS with their customer’s G.O.L.D. system via electronic data interchange (EDI) at the front end and with their shipping software on the back end. G.O.L.D. also interfaces with a radio system for DC receiving and replenishment and the Vocollect picking system for order fulfillment. MCA’s G.O.L.D. WMS manages a diverse inventory that includes both dry and fresh goods, as well as just-in-time or ready-made items, such as salads, for the grocery chain. By next spring, G.O.L.D. will help move approximately 200,000 shipping units a day across all four DCs.

“MCA Logistics is demonstrating the power of the Aldata G.O.L.D. WMS in a multi-property, large scale grocery warehousing operation," said Brendan Lowe, vice president, Aldata, North America. "With G.O.L.D., MCA Logistics is far better positioned to automate and manage warehouses for its existing customers and to bring on new customers who want to reap the business and cost benefits of outsourcing their warehousing operations to a 3PL."
