psb hands over distribution logistics to the manufacturer of kitchens SALM

With the slogan »Setting standards«, the French manufacturer of kitchens SALM (Cuisines SCHMIDT) has continued to expand its production capacities in France.

Utilizing high technology, at the new factory Sélestat U2 (from French »usine«), SALM will not only double its total capacity, but new standards will also be set in manufacturing: the furniture will be strictly produced according to order-time placement and delivery (»just-in-time principle«).

Today, the SALM group manufactures 550 kitchens in total per day, at the three locations Türkismühle (Germany), Sélestat and Lièpvre (both in France). With the ultramodern, innovative factory, SALM has set a milestone in the strictly »order-time placement« in kitchen manufacturing.

psb has supplied the distribution logistics center for the new factory U2. On the basis of SALM’s all new ideas, strategies and standards, this new logistics center is an important instrument of the company, in order to achieve a substantial increase in production efficiencies, compared to traditional production methods. The core of the psb system is a tray-based warehouse (7 automated crane aisles), where the corpuses and purchased parts (»colis«), coming from the internal production lines and from the receiving area (goods from outside), are buffered until all items of a list (route) are available.

The extensive conveyor system is installed on a mezzanine platform, in order to keep clear space for the flow of materials to the dispatch area. If a complete route has been released for loading, all »colis«, in the correct order, are transferred to one of 5 dispatch lifts, transporting the units to the lower level. At the dispatch gate, they join with other material flows of products.

The entire material flow is controlled by the psb selektron MFC software package – it is a multi-faceted systems management control tool, with analyzing options and control center functions, in interaction with the production control of SALM, route management, a SCADA system for systems diagnostics, visualization and maintenance support, as well as the operational monitoring of the total system installation.
