NKD sets its sights on expansion with Kardex Mlog

01.08.2012

Complete high-bay warehouse from a single source

Textile discounter NKD is expanding its logistics centre in Bindlach with a new five-aisle high-bay warehouse. General contractor Kardex Mlog is supplying all the components and logistics projects from a single source. Even the steel structure comes from its own group of companies. Installation will start in autumn this year, commissioning in early 2013. The expansion will double the dispatch capacity at the site within a few months.

NKD transports more than eight million items per month, including clothes, shoes and accessories for the fashion and costconscious customer. This value should increase considerably with the planned opening of almost 200 more subsidiaries in 2012. Therefore, the central warehouse is being expanded by an additional highbay warehouse under the leadership of Kardex Mlog. When the contract was awarded, Kardex Mlog scored with its textile expertise and the offer, as part of the Kardex Group, of being able to complete the entire project from one source.

The contract includes, among other things, the delivery and installation of five storage and retrieval machines, each with a two-deep and one-deep load handling device, the entire conveyor system for pallets and roll containers and an electric overhead monorail conveyor. Also included in the scope of supply are all the control systems and the material flow and warehouse management control systems. The steel construction comes from associated company Kardex Stow. Sales manager Frank Labes explains the concept of the overall supplier as follows: “The optimally harmonised components and work projects from one source result in a short project period despite the substantial dimensions”.
