ZITEC increases performance with TGW logistics centre

After a quick realization phase, ZITEC Industrietechnik GmbH successfully accepted the new logistics centre at their headquarters in Plattling, Bavaria. With a one-stop solution by TGW, the technical retailer for machine elements and systems partner for mechanical spare parts, is able to achieve an increase in performance of up to 4,000 order lines per day. 98.5 per cent of the parts ordered until 5:30 pm can be picked and shipped on the same day.

All 110,000 products are in their place. ZITEC employees get the machine parts ready for shipping at six modern picking and ten packing workstations. In the eight-aisle automated mini-load warehouse with dynamic Mustang Evolution stacker cranes and high-performance tote and carton conveyor equipment intense activity can be observed. Up to 1,200 totes can be stored and retrieved - per hour. The intelligent software cares for perfectly adapted processes. As partner for the entire solution, TGW realized a turn-key solution including warehouse management system, material flow controller and system visualization.

"Today, technical retailers is more than a product supplier for their customers from mechanical engineering and industry. As central Supply Chain Manager our tasks are to supply consistent product data, optimize stocks in the supply chain and deliver goods of various suppliers based on the customers' needs. Thus, the new automated mini-load of TGW assumes a central role for our performance and flexibility, above all due to ever shorter delivery terms and an even more volatile market," says Walter Nemetz, Managing Director at ZITEC.

The entire project was characterized by a quick project realization, the adherence to the schedule and successful software tests. The relocation of 110,000 products from the old warehouse was a mammoth task and took about six months. "TGW was able to minimize the influence of the use of the system for the customer by providing an alternative IT solution. The system was installed as independent stand-alone solution. Due to this, the relocation of the goods could be done without interruptions of the daily operation," explains Harald Stallinger, Managing Director at TGW. Even after the project's end, the implementation of the extended "Server network by TGW" package continues.
