Jungheinrich Logistics Interface Captures Best-of-Industry-Award

02.03.2016

At a glamorous awards ceremony held on February 18th at the Vogel Convention Centre in Würzburg, Germany, the long-established Vogel Business Media publishing group presented the Best of Industry awards in ten different categories. Jungheinrich captured the award in the category of Material Flow with its proprietary »Logistics Interface« software solution.

The awards go to the cream of the crop, as only solutions which have already been decorated with an industrial award or have experienced an outstanding response in the marketplace are even considered for this high-calibre honour. The awards ceremony took place as part of a Best of Industry Gala event on February 18th, attracting some 200 guests from various sectors of industry. Prior to the event 34 nominees had been selected in ten different categories within the scope of an elaborate selection process. A jury of eight independent researchers and users was joined by readers of the »MM MaschinenMarkt« magazine in selecting the winners in the respective categories, with almost 10,000 votes being counted in an online voting procedure.

Jungheinrich persuaded everyone with its innovative Logistics Interface IT solution, capturing the product »Oscar« in the Material Flow category. The Logistics Interface consists of middleware installed on the customer's truck terminal or network server, from whence it communicates with manually operated or automated trucks, with sensors in the warehouse or with other warehouse equipment. The »Logistics Interface« is standard software which has a number of standard frontends to virtually any warehouse management system (WMS) as well as to other company-specific software. The Logistics Interface can for instance transmit transport orders from a central WMS system to the truck and then report back the results. The Logistics Interface can also be used to generate additional information which is useful for the optimisation of warehouse and production processes. Jungheinrich has thus succeeded in creating software which can connect any type of IT system with other systems and the relevant hardware and which also takes into consideration the great diversity of warehouse IT solutions, intralogistics processes and applications.

The jury praised the Jungheinrich solution for functioning as an interpreter between warehouse equipment and IT, for guaranteeing smooth communication and synchronising material flows with information flows in real time. »This award reconfirms our overall orientation and approach and the excellent quality of our software development,« exclaimed a delighted Dr.-Ing. Martin Schwaiger, Head of the Interfaces Dept. at Jungheinrich Logistiksysteme, during his acceptance of the prize.
