Sensor technology at CeMAT 2018

17.05.2018

Visitors show keen interest in CIM’s warehouse management system with sensor technology

»Sensor technology in logistics« and the »Internet of Things« – these were much discussed topics at this year’s CeMAT and also the key focus at CIM’s stand. The software designers from Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich demonstrated how new technologies can be utilised to maximise the efficiency of logistics processes.

»Sensor technology and the question of how it can be deployed to achieve real and lasting benefits is currently a highly topical subject in the logistics world«, says Daniel Wöhr from CIM’s marketing department. The company’s solution to this question are multi-sensor measuring systems as a key to more efficient and intelligent logistics processes. »Using sensor technology, we’ve taught our warehouse management system how to monitor its environment and detect any changes«, explains Wöhr.

The experts at CIM have achieved this by deploying multi-sensor measuring cubes which can capture a wide range of measurement data such as temperature, relative humidity, light intensity, CO2 concentrations, acceleration and air pressure. There are typical use cases at all levels of intralogistics including storage, fleet management, transport management and scheduling.

Live picking with smart glasses

The live picking at CIM’s stand attracted a great deal of interest, with visual guidance provided through the process using a smart glasses application. There was also a first glimpse of the completely remodelled interfaces for browsers and mobile end devices, which CIM is due to launch in the middle of the year. Key new features are the UX design and visual process guidance using icons and graphics to support and accelerate the handling of daily work tasks.

Fewer exhibitors at CeMAT

Although CeMAT took place at the same time as HANNOVER MESSE this year, exhibitors reported a further decline in visitor numbers showing a continuing downward trend. While CeMAT 2014 hosted 48,000 visitors and 1,022 exhibitors, numbers had dropped to 40,000 visitors and 975 exhibitors by 2016. The organizers have not yet released the official figures for 2018. The next HANNOVER MESSE is scheduled to take place from April 1 to 5, 2019. The next CeMAT is planned for April 20 to 24, 2020 – again at the same time as HANNOVER MESSE.
