AD Poids Lourds is upgrading its logistical processes thanks to LMxt from A-SIS

26.10.2018

AD Poids Lourds, HGV spare parts specialist, has launched a major logistics renovation project with the help of A-SIS, SAVOYE's supply chain software publishing brand, and its warehouse management solution LMxt

A subsidiary of the AUTODISTRIBUTION Group, AD Poids Lourds houses 21,000 different catalogue numbers of spare parts entirely dedicated to heavy goods vehicles at its national platform in ST FARGEAU PONTHIERRY (77). There is a very wide range of products: from a little seal just 1 cm in diameter to the 120-kg fifth wheel coupling or a 2.40-metre long stowing component. The Group's national platform handles the daily supply, storage, and despatch to the AD Poids Lourds system and customers of the export business. This distribution site consists of two 5000-m2 units, and is staffed by 75 people working in operations, sales, and service. »To serve our national distributors, we operate a dual preparation mode. Stock orders are prepared with a D+5 delivery commitment. These account for approximately 60% of our flows. The remaining 40% is made up of troubleshooting orders shipped by express mode with a daily cut-off at 6 PM, for possible next-day delivery before 8 AM in a night airlock, for distributors that have one,« says Sylvain Pharisien, Logistics Director of the HGV Business Unit. Before setting up the new WMS, these operations were conducted manually, in paper mode, with an individual approach to preparation according to the customer. This process was unreliable, particularly with regard to the traceability of operations, and was complex for the order picker because it required product knowledge.

LMxt: an obvious solution

To shorten order preparation times, further raise the quality of its processes, and optimise its operations in terms of productivity and quality of service, AD Poids Lourds set out to find a tool capable of interfacing with its ERP system and the information systems of its carrier partners: »We launched a study early in 2017 to evaluate two scenarios: asking the publisher of our ERP to develop a special new module to satisfy our needs, or implementing a WMS. We quickly decided on the second option, and had a meeting with A-SIS, which is considered to be one of the leading publishers in the market,« says Sylvain Pharisien. The A-SIS WMS, LMxt, is already installed on logistics sites of the Autodistribution Group, where it has worked successfully. So it's natural that the AD Poids Lourds national platform would choose this software publisher. After starting in September 2017, the WMS was successfully implemented in mid-April 2018.

A tool, advice, and methods for greater logistical efficiency

In parallel with setting up LMxt, A-SIS also provides expert advice to its customer, and is recommending the initiation of a vast barcode identification project: »We looked at our 21,000 Catalogue Numbers, checked all of our barcodes, and weighed and measured all of our products. This allowed us to label them and secure our logistics data, with the aim of also imposing this requirement on all of our suppliers,« explains Sylvain Pharisien. With regard to carriers, the publisher also encourages its customer to send carton EDI feeds via its service provider TDI to offer higher-quality shipment tracking information, which was previously difficult to obtain. Nearly six months after the installation of LMxt and the setting up of radiofrequency terminals for reception, storage and preparation, the AD Poids Lourds national platform is now making many improvements in terms of time, productivity, and less arduous work for its operators. »Our reception, storage, and order preparation processes have been optimised; we have improved our operational flexibility, and above all we have achieved complete traceability of all of our logistics operations,« concludes Sylvain Pharisien.
