Description

Task description

TURCK is one of the world’s leading groups of companies in the industrial automation sector. The family owned company provides around 15,000 products from the areas of sensor, field bus, connection and interface technology as well as HMI and RFID.Supplies to the customers and the foreign subsidiaries are carried out via the central logistics centre in Mülheim (Germany).

The logistics facilities were built in 1995 and have been extended many times since then. The reason for the complete modernisation were the ever growing problems with the availability of the material handling system, caused by a heterogeneous automation structure with partially discontinued components.

Only four days time were given to Unitechnik to switch over from the old to new system. During that period most of electrical system had been dismanteled, and newly installed. The existing data base had to be converted to the new UniWare WMS. One day out of four were completly used to implement the new WMS at Turck. All this required an intensive test phase at Unitechnik. All tests
could simulate the old and new system in all details in order to minimize the commissioning time.
