Warehousing and Logistics Trends 2009-2013

24.02.2010

Two students from The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, Björn Tideman and Anders Göransson has conducted a survey as their Master Thesis - investigating trends in logistics and warehousing.

The objective of the survey was to understand how logistics and warehousing will develop within the next years starting 2009 to 2013. The survey was divided into four parts; Focus areas, Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Industrial Trends and Investments.

We asked Björn and Anders to share some of their experience from the WMS Trend Report project:
"By choosing the more broad, wide international spectra of doing this type of survey, we feel that we have learned a lot more than we would have, choosing a traditional set up of focusing on a local market/company in a Master Thesis", says Anders Göransson.

The survey was open to decision makers and specialists within logistics and warehousing in ten European countries. All thou the highest level of responders where located in Scandinavia.

Which are the 5 top Industrial trends? "Our analysis show a very interesting difference between the special interviews with logistics experts and the companies survey answer. Lean is one of the areas located in Top 5, also Supply Chain Integration and Sustainable Supply Chain together with Standardisation", comments Björn Tideman.

A quick look at the Top 5 list for Trends in WMS we find areas as Information Visualisation, Forecasting and Traceability as important focus areas for Scandinavian companies.

Are there specific industries that stands out as responders? Anders comments."Yes, we have received most answers from Manufacturing, Wholesale and Retail Industry."

During Consafe Logistics Nordic Seminar Road Show starting in April, a summary of the report will be available for all our participants. In June this year we will publish the report on our website.
