Solvo.WMS automates warehouse complex with refrigerated storerooms

01.04.2013

SOLVO completes automation project for a new cold storage warehouse facility for “Chelny-Holod” (Naberezhnye Chelny, Republic of Tatarstan).

Chelny-Holod JSC, a major producer of semi-prepared food, fish products, and ice cream, is firmly established brand on the market not only in the given republic but across the entire Volga region. The facility includes over three productions lines. The high quality of released products is ensured by the rigorous quality control system.

The management of Chelny-Holod decided to build a new facility for finished products to replace the old warehouse, which was no longer compliant with the modern requirements of the developing enterprise. Several modern WMS systems were considered when picking out a warehouse management system, after which Solvo.WMS was chosen as the clear favorite. The decision was made due to the fact that SOLVO offers ready-made “turn-key” project solutions, which includes preliminary consulting, development and implementation of software as well as delivery and configuration of necessary radio equipment. Moreover, this project was not the first for SOLVO in the Naberezhnye Chelny region: Solvo.WMS has already been operating successfully at the warehouse complex of the retailer “Essen” for over a year.

The new project has added to the list of successful solutions implemented by SOLVO. The technological idiosyncrasies of the client-enterprise served as the basis for innovative solutions that where developed during implementation.

The facility for automated is a warehouse complex, which includes three refrigerated storerooms with a total area of 7000 m2 and a storage temperature – 30оС.

The warehouse is equipped with gravitational racks used for pallet and carton storage.
Items that are received from production do not always fill a full pallet. Therefore, in order to fully utilize the warehouse space, the carton picking zone was designated to the first rack floor. Order planning in the system is performed with consideration of the fact that any order will include an incomplete pallet. This makes it possible to rationally utilize warehouse space and reduce the number of incomplete pallets stored at the warehouse.

Loads are transferred in several stages. Transit locations are used for temporary storage of loads that are received from production. Reachstackers then move and place loads into actual storage locations. Routing rules make it possible to assign the necessary routes for various types of loads and allocate them in between handling equipment for easy access.

Custom label printing technology was tailored specifically for Chelny-Holod JSC, which makes it possible to print labels in advance. A label includes the company logo, product name, production date, and the load dimensions.

When planning shipping, the system takes into account many types of parameters such as production date, rack placement date, estimated delivery to client date, storage location, etc.

A critical component of the given warehouse complex is the requirement to operate under low temperatures, which led to the usage of equipment that designed to withstand harsh conditions and temperatures. SOLVO provided the mounted and hand-held CS series terminals from its partner, Honeywell.

The Solvo.WMS system has operated at the Chelny-Holod JSC warehouse for only a few months, but it is already clear that all of the tasks set before the system have been handled successfully: eliminated pallet loss, reduced the number of remainders, and product expiration dates are now carefully observed.

An agreement to implement the system has been already signed for the enterprise’s second new warehouse.
