Bosch Rexroth and Klinkhammer cooperate on warehouse automation with fully automated piece picking

25.05.2020

Klinkhammer Intralogistics, a system integrator and expert in warehouse automation is ex-panding its portfolio for automated picking by the Smart Item Picking of Bosch Rexroth.

Due to booming industries such as e-commerce and fulfillment, high-performance picking of small quantities and individual items is becoming increasingly important. A shortage of skilled workers, increasing cost pressure and increasing demands on workplace design and ergonomics are additional challenges for the logistics industry. Here, the automation of picking workplaces offers decisive advantages.

The robotic system Smart Item Picking of Rexroth picks a wide variety of products delivered from shuttle systems or other small-parts warehouses. »It increases efficiency and reliability and decreases operating costs of the entire system«, explains Jochen Groener, project manager for the Smart Item Picking at Bosch Rexroth.

The intelligent image recognition of the system thereby determines the position of randomly allocated products at different heights and orientations and, with intelligent collision avoidance, enables a trouble-free »bin-picking«. Using a standard interface, the robot is seamlessly integrated into the state-of-the-art warehouse management system KlinkWARE of the company Klinkhammer and thus receives its picking orders. Klinkhammer integrates the Smart Item Picking of Bosch Rexroth both in new and existing logistics systems, digitally networks the systems and controls the material flow from goods receipt to shipping. Smart Item Picking can also be used for warehouse activities beyond picking, such as storage compaction and consolidation of goods.

»With the intelligent smart picking robot of Bosch Rexroth, we are taking a further step towards full automation. The efficient picking of individual pieces offers our customers a decisive competitive advantage«, explains Frank Klinkhammer, Chief Executive Officer at Klinkhammer Intralogistics GmbH.

»With Klinkhammer Intralogistics we have a successful partner with in-depth industry knowledge in the logistics market«, emphasizes Thomas Fechner, head of the product area New Business at Bosch Rexroth. »For the Smart Item Picking, we have worked closely together to combine the deep technical knowledge of our colleagues at Bosch research and the project expertise of Rexroth. The result is a flexible, high-performance system that is now ready for use in the factory of the future thanks to the support of artificial intelligence.«
