First Stage of Automation Project at Baltiysk Container Terminal Completed

03.11.2011

SOLVO announced that the first stage of the project for automating the Baltic Stevedore container terminal located in Baltiysk, the Kaliningrad region of Russia, has been completed.

SOLVO announced that the first stage of the project for automating the Baltic Stevedore container terminal located in Baltiysk, the Kaliningrad region of Russia, has been completed. From now on, operative planning, execution and control of all terminal operations are performed using Solvo.CTMS.

The Baltic Stevedore is a subsidiary of the NCSP Group. The terminal is situated in a non-freezing deep-water part of the Baltic sea. This enables the terminal to maintain ship navigation and loading/unloading operations throughout the entire year. The Baltic Stevedore terminal is designed to process container and car ferry cargoes at the port of Baltiysk. Along with most of the Kaliningrad-based factories involved in assembling and processing industries, Maersk and MSC, two worldwide container line operators, have used the Baltic Stevedore terminal's services.

The Baltic Stevedore terminal has enough storage space to store up to 4500 container TEUs. The berth is equipped with three Liebherr LHM-400 mobile cranes, each one rated at 104 tons. The storage site is equipped with four RTG cranes. Moreover, Kalmar container tractors and container semitrailers are used to move containers within the port.

The project for automation of the Baltic Stevedore terminal has been carried out by SOLVO as part of a larger project aimed at enhancing the terminal's output efficiency. Previous capacities of the terminal enabled it to process up to 200 thousand TEUs per year. After all stages of the upgrade project are completed, the terminal will be able to process as much as twice the TEU amount as before.

The Solvo.CTMS system was selected to automate the management processes at the Baltic Stevedore terminal. Among its functions, this solution helps to considerably speed up container processing, collect precise data about cargo location, optimize terminal equipment usage, and sync up vessel operations.

The next stage of the project will be to integrate the Solvo.CTMS management system with the Baltic Stevedore terminal's in-house document management system.
