Arla Foods Invest in Voice Picking from Consafe Logistics

Consafe Logistics and Arla foods have signed a contract for a voice picking system for diary products and fresh foods at Arla’s Distribution terminals
The first system, currently being implemented at the Hobro terminal in Denmark, will put 75 voice terminals into service this summer. Arla is the first company using the pick-by voice technology in Denmark.
Voice picking means that warehouse staff is equipped with a small, portable voice terminal and a headset. The voice terminal contacts Consafe Logistics’ voice system in real time via a wireless network. The picker receives voice instructions from the system and uses his/her own voice to confirm what work has been done. The advantages are increased productivity and better balance control. Giving pickers free hands and visibility enables them to work in a safer working environment.
Voice picking has been established as a proven technology and is growing strongly within warehousing and distribution. “We have already installed several systems for customers in the USA and lead the way in this technology. We are experiencing a strong growth in Scandinavia and northern Europe.” says Mattias Hagman, Director of Business Development at Consafe Logistics. “Several European food companies have already implemented voice control with excellent results”.
“We are making this investment primarily to further increase our deliver quality with a real-time solution. We want to eliminate picking faults as an important step in getting rid of picking lists.” says Rudi Petersen, Terminal Manager and project manager at Hobro. “We have a long relationship with Consafe Logistics after several previous WMS installations and their strong presence in Scandinavia as well as experience of FMCG products/food sector was a deciding factor.”
