The »Best practices in Russian logistics« week was held October 16-20, organized by the Coordination Logistics Committee with support from SOLVO.

The weekly program included: visits to warehouses, case studies, overview and discussion of innovative technologies for warehouse optimization.

October 16-19 saw logistics directors from major Russian companies discuss warehouse complexes in Moscow and Moscow oblast, whose best practices revealed how their warehouse management systems operate and how other state-of-the-art technologies are being applied.

On October 19, participants visited a warehouse of one of SOLVO’s clients - the Evroplast company —a flagship polymer package manufacturer. Today, Solvo.WMS is responsible for running two of the company’s warehouses: in Moscow oblast and Yekaterinburg. Evroplast’s Solnechnogorodskiy facility is the largest polyethyleneterephthalate package plant in Russia.

The Solnechnogorodskiy facility is noteworthy for its Sysmat conveyor line, automatic Mlog stacker crane, with which loads are put away into gravity racks with the help of Solvo.WMS. In particular, the WMS issues a commend for subsequent load transfers via the conveyor. Next, the load is moved to control point where the system checks the ability to put away loads into the rack, after which a task to stow the load is sent to the stacker crane.

Other notable features of the project include:

  • Pallet and carton marking with SSCC-labels;

  • Special Solvo.WMS feature for working with gravitational racks: automated process of moving pallets and containers to the zone closest to the shipping docks; special strategy for putaway with preference for the nearest rack: load substitution and picking jobs etc.;

  • Usage of transit location;

  • Automatic generation of batches for all products and work shifts;

  • Usage of a special work station for receiving goods from production.

Based on the company's in-house expert analysis, Solvo.WMS increased picking speed by 15% while job accuracy increased by over 30%. While the number of returns has decreased by 1.5 times since the system was deployed.

At the event, company representatives along with Vladimir Nikitin, WMS deployment expert at SOLVO, explained to attendees how the system improves warehouse process management and how lean production technologies can be applied in logistics.

On October 20, attendees took part in a special workshop called »Solving the Logistics Issues for You Business« where participants were able to receive recommendations from major experts on tackling logistics-related as well as industry-specific problems.
