New production facility for Dr. Reckeweg in Bensheim/Germany

29.05.2018

With demand for homeopathic medicinal products constantly growing both at home and abroad, pharmaceutical manufacturer Dr. Reckeweg & Co. GmbH is intending to expand its production capacities. To this end, investment has been earmarked for the construction of a new production building with an adjoining high-bay warehouse in Bensheim.

Selected as the lead consultant, io-consultants with its team of process planners and architects is responsible for the project phases Concept Design, Basic Design, Detail Design, Construction and Commissioning.

»We are planning a building suitable for the manufacture of a wide range of medicinal preparations, with production meeting the FDA’s high quality requirements and the EU’s GMP standards for the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry«, explains Huschmand Khalili, partner at io-consultants. A modern high-bay warehouse will be constructed in the same building complex as the interim and buffer storage facility for the large quantities of raw materials and products.

A major project requirement was the avoidance of intersecting material flows, and the logistics concept adopted for the building ensures that no such problems ensue.

»We started the concept design work with io-consultants back in April 2017, investigating various design possibilities for a new production building. Their overall concept convinced us, so we also hired them as lead consultants for the project«, says David Reckeweg Lecompte, Managing Director at Dr. Reckeweg.

Construction work will begin at the end of 2018, with commissioning of the production facility to take place by the end of 2020.

Dr. Reckeweg has been developing and producing homeopathic combined pharmaceuticals since 1947. The company moved its operation to Bensheim in 1955 and employs 212 people at the site. It supplies products from its wide-ranging portfolio to 40 different countries.
