Novant Health Improves Supply Chain Performance with Manhattan Associates' Warehouse Management Solution

Healthcare Leader Streamlines Logistics Operations to Reduce Expense of Medical Supplies in the Community

ATLANTA - September 20, 2005 - Leading supply chain solutions provider, Manhattan Associates, deployed its Warehouse Management solution for Novant Health, a leading not-for-profit healthcare system in the southeast. The solution has helped Novant fine-tune its supply chain operations for more efficient and accurate distribution of medical supplies and equipment to its network of hospitals. This is just one step in Novant's overall goal to provide supplies to its hospital network in the most cost-effective manner possible—ultimately helping to moderate increases in healthcare costs.

Implemented at the Novant Logistics Center (NLC) in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the Warehouse Management solution has enhanced the performance, timeliness and accuracy of the company's supply chain by providing real-time tracking of the movement of goods from receiving through shipping. With the solution in place, Novant has been able to consolidate its distribution process, closing six separate materials management inventory centers and eliminating its former method in which its suppliers shipped directly to the hospitals.

"Novant selected Manhattan Associates because of its excellent reputation, the ease-of-use demonstrated in its Warehouse Management solution and the quality and expertise of its implementation team," remarked Tony Johnson, Novant's senior vice president, materials management and logistics. "In addition, Manhattan Associates offers a world-class support center, exceptional training programs and comprehensive documentation that is accessible and user friendly."

Novant's facility began receiving and shipping medical supplies to the first of its seven hospitals in March 2005 as planned. Following a phased implementation, all seven hospitals are now receiving shipments through the new Kannapolis distribution center.

"We had a limited time for implementation and felt comfortable that Manhattan Associates could deliver a solution that successfully integrated with our Lawson ERP system, based on all its previous enterprise integration successes," said Johnson. "Manhattan Associates was the only solution provider to give us that level of comfort, and it delivered as promised. We are confident that, no matter how much our business transforms or expands in the future, Manhattan Associates has the solutions to meet our needs."

"Novant is leading the way in healthcare in its understanding of how supply chain logistics play a role in overall business effectiveness and cost," said Jeff Mitchell, Manhattan Associates' executive vice president, Americas. "By improving processes around the delivery of its supplies, Novant is setting an example and putting a process in place that will benefit not just the company itself but also its healthcare providers, their patients and the healthcare industry as a whole."
