Leading multichannel retailing and e-commerce services provider maximizes efficiency in new fulfillment center

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – RedPrairie Corporation, a productivity software provider, has announced that its Warehouse Management solution helped GSI Commerce meet and surpass its 2008 peak seasonal goals at the company’s Richwood, Ky. fulfillment center. A leading multichannel retailing and e-commerce services provider, GSI uses RedPrairie’s solution to fulfill online consumer orders for GSI’s retailing clients at its most automated fulfillment center.

“When we built our Richwood fulfillment center, it was outfitted with the latest automation and designed to process large volumes efficiently and quickly. Our ability to scale the operation’s efficiency is particularly important during our peak winter holiday season when we see significant increases in order volumes,” said Paul Chisholm, vice president and general manager of GSI’s Richwood and Louisville fulfillment centers. “In anticipation of record sales volumes during 2008’s peak season, our goal was to make sure that we could continue to maximize efficiency in the facility by eliminating areas that could ‘pinch off’ or slow our operations. RedPrairie’s people worked with us to ensure that their warehouse management system was primed to meet expectations.”

“What started out as preparation to meet increased demand volume for 2008 ended up as significant system modifications that put us on a path that will allow us to adapt and handle volume requirements that we have in our five-year growth plan,” said Chisholm.

RedPrairie’s Warehouse Management solution has been integrated with GSI’s 540,000-square foot, four-level fulfillment center in Richwood. With multiple capabilities to help ensure GSI’s commitment to a high-level inventory and order accuracy, as well as an accelerated fill rate, RedPrairie’s solution offers GSI a platform that is flexible and scalable.

“GSI’s fulfillment operations are somewhat unique in that they support the direct-to-consumer and e-commerce businesses for a large number national brands and retailers, which means they fulfill orders from a very diverse and deep range of products,” said RedPrairie CEO Mike Mayoras. “In addition to their annual growth in volumes, the fourth quarter is when they experience their highest order volumes, and they need their warehouse management system to scale and to continue to perform optimally under accelerated and intensely stressful conditions.
