Système U selects Aldata’s Pack to Light Solution

03.10.2011

French grocery retailer streamlines its multi-order preparation and improves warehouse productivity with Aldata Pack to Light

"Efficient order management is critical for Système U. We had used the Aldata voice directed warehousing system for 7 years and were very happy with it. However, the diversity of our store formats meant that occasionally we had to prepare single orders on double pallet forklifts, which led to productivity losses as a result of additional and unnecessary operator movements. We worked with Aldata to overcome this, increase productivity and to achieve a higher level of accuracy for multi-order preparation. This collaboration lead to the development and release of the Pack to Light solution.”

“With Aldata Pack to Light, we are now approaching ‘zero pick’ errors. After only three months in operation, we have improved order preparation productivity by 5%. We are now reviewing plans to extend the roll-out to other distribution centers.” Michel le Grouyere, Logistics Director, Head of Methods and Practices, Système U Ouest

How has Aldata Pack to Light helped Système U Ouest?

  • Système U Ouest had used Aldata’s voice directed operations in its warehouses for seven years, but business change meant that for efficiency there was a need for operators to prepare multiple orders simultaneously. The co-operative installed the Aldata Pack to Light option in its first warehouse in May 2011. The solution is now live in five of its distribution centers. Just three months after go live; Système U has seen operator productivity increase by 5%.
  • With Aldata Pack to Light, after being directed to a picking address, the preparation operator confirms their position by voice and then validates it by scanning or declaring a unique pivot code. Each customer tray or carton has its own unique display, which is linked by WIFI to the operator’s voice-directed terminal. Once the operator has validated their position, the display indicates the quantity of products to place in the tray or carton.
