Generix group announces the launch of GCS WMS 5.7, the new version of its warehouse management solution

28.02.2012

It will be presented for the first time at the SITL trade show

Generix Group, a vendor of collaborative software for the Retail ecosystem, has announced the launch of GCS WMS 5.7, the new version of its warehouse management solution. Available from April 2012, it is characterised by its adaptation to the latest regulatory developments, voice integration for managing multi-modal applications, new picking methods as well as the release of a vertical business application: the e-logistics Package.

1. GCS WMS 5.7 incorporates the latest regulatory developments

Hazardous materials: incorporation of the ADR*2011 regulations

The ADR*2011 regulations require the update of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Document (CDGD). GCS WMS thus displays the new mandatory elements, which includes among others, the UN materials designator.

Management of the Gamm@ project

Gamm@ is a project headed by the Customs and Excise Department aimed at reducing the administrative documents accompanying goods subject to excise duty. The activities impacted by this project involve distributors of alcohol and alcoholic beverages, manufactured tobacco and energy products. Gamm@ forms part of a European EMCS project; it relates to goods flows between countries of the European Union.

GCS WMS 5.7 manages and monitors Electronic Administrative Documents (EADs) according to the corresponding receipt and/or dispatch flows. The Gamm@ functionality also allows the content of the EAD to be defined and for it to be verified prior to its submission to the Gamm@ portal. The flow of administrative information is transmitted by EDI. GCS WMS 5.7 has a Gamm@ certificate.

2. The multi-modal application enhances the capabilities of voice applications

The advantages that the warehouse operator voice equipment provides are as follows: improved accuracy rate of up to 99.9%, increased productivity (15 to 25% quicker in comparison to an RF terminal solution - non vocal), improved ergonomics and security (eyes and hands free to perform tasks), etc.

The multi-modal system (bar code scan, RFID reader, etc.) enhances the capabilities of the dedicated voice equipment. The emergence of terminals that consider the voice as one of several user interfaces has allowed the use of this equipment to be extended to to other business activities such as inventory taking and order picking. In GCS WMS 5.7, using conventional order picking, by cross-docking or inventory operations, the standard scenarios are ready to use with multi-modal equipment.

3. Yet more new features...

Dynamic development of priorities

Scheduling management based on load priorities.

Dynamic dock allocation

Incorporation of a dock search-constrained algorithm.

Storage and grouped retrieval scenarios

The new scenarios allow for significant productivity gains as they enable numerous storage and retrieval tasks to be carried out without having to scan the SSCC**.

These scenarios are particularly suited to products with the following characteristics:

  • Interchangeable,
  • Transported by product group using clamps or high-capacity forklift trucks,
  • Stored in bulk bays, such as stackable products (white goods).

4. Starting up e-Logistics with a simple turn of the key

ER-commerce demands a specific logistics approach: a wide range of products and services available for delivery, significant volume variations, single product orders, delivery to a location selected by the consumer, using the carrier of its choice, while processing a potentially high number of returns. ER-commerce obliges the conventional logistics provider to review each stage of its value chain while ensuring the profitability of its activity. GCS WMS 5.7 enhances the vertical business application: the e-logistics Package.

Who is it aimed at?

The GCS WMS e-logistics Package is aimed at high-growth pure players, logistics service providers for their emerchant customers as well as distributors or manufacturers who are involved in multi-channel sales through a catalogue, a sales outlet and/or over the internet.

Meeting e-commerce ambitions

The e-logistics Package is the result of a close collaboration between Generix Group and its customers that specialise in e-commerce. It is based on warehouse (WMS) and transport (TMS) business functionalities that can be tailored to specific processes such as:

  • Goods receipt, quality control and storage,
  • Returns processing (reverse logistics),
  • Picking, packing, checks,
  • Transport labels,
  • Picking monitoring, carrier delivery tracking, etc.

5. I-Design: High-performance ergonomics

I-Design is the new graphical interface incorporated into the GCS WMS solution. It offers a speedier and more fluid user experience while strengthening the functional scope of the applications. In particular, I-Design enables the 3D mapping of the warehouse.
