EPG Consulting develops logistics and repair center for Ratiodata

28.10.2025

Comprehensive Support from Planning to Implementation

With the official opening in early September, Ratiodata SE launched operations at its new IT logistics and repair center in the A61 Industrial Park in Koblenz. EPG Consulting, the independent logistics consultancy of the Ehrhardt Partner Group (EPG), was responsible as general planner, together with the BBF Group, for the design and implementation of the new building covering around 16,500 square meters. On a site of 30,000 square meters, a modern logistics hub was created that meets the highest standards of efficiency, sustainability, and employee well-being. For Ratiodata, the new facility marks an important step in reliably meeting the growing demands of the IT services and spare parts logistics business while also expanding repair capacity. With its combination of office space, a highly automated warehouse, and specialized workshop areas, one of Germany’s largest system houses is consistently continuing its strategic expansion. At the same time, the successful launch underscores EPG Consulting’s role as one of the leading general planners for logistics real estate in Germany and Europe.

For the successful execution of a project of this scale, a partner was required who not only brought architectural expertise but also a deep understanding of logistics processes and their integration into a modern facility. This is why Ratiodata relied on EPG Consulting. As general planner, EPG Consulting coordinated everything from site analysis, building technology and technical design, to the integration of logistics processes. The goal was to create a property that met both complex logistical requirements and high environmental standards. Through close coordination between the client, construction companies, and specialized planners, all elements were brought together into a coherent overall concept.

Modern technology for maximum efficiency

At the new IT logistics center, innovation meets precision. A powerful conveyor system, the AutoStore system with 16,000 storage bins, a manual storage area, and six state-of-the-art automated guided vehicles (AGVs) ensure a fully automated material flow and minimize walking distances. Using the goods-to-person principle, items are delivered directly to employees. This increases productivity, improves ergonomics, and creates measurable efficiency in daily operations.

»The combination of innovative logistics technology, sustainable energy solutions, and modern work environments was the guiding principle of our planning,« explains Marcel Wilhelms, Managing Director of EPG Consulting. »The project demonstrates how important it is to take a holistic view of buildings, technology, and processes. Only then can efficient and future-proof structures be created in the long term.«

The entire facility was designed with a modular structure, allowing additional technologies or capacities to be integrated at any time. »With the planning and implementation of this project, we are creating the basis to take our logistics processes to the next level,« emphasizes Markus Farnung, Head of Logistics at Ratiodata SE. »Thanks to close collaboration with EPG Consulting, we were able to realize a logistics and repair center that perfectly supports our strategic expansion while laying the foundation for future growth.«

Sustainability as a core element of logistics

Sustainability played just as important a role in planning the new center as technical equipment. The building operates entirely without fossil fuels. An 8,000-square-meter photovoltaic system on the roof and parking area generates most of the required energy on site. Green roofs and façades further improve the local microclimate. The building technology also sets benchmarks: intelligent control systems continuously monitor energy consumption and automatically adjust it to actual demand.

»What is particularly noteworthy is that, with our subsidiary BBF, we not only handled the planning but also accompanied construction execution and the permitting process,« adds Wilhelms. »This holistic approach was critical in embedding sustainability and efficiency into the project right from the start.« The new center is already considered one of the flagship projects for ecological construction in the Koblenz region.

Work environments for employees

Another key goal of the new facility was to create an attractive and modern working environment. Bright office areas with flexible work zones, ergonomic workplaces in logistics and repair, and spacious social and break rooms ensure a contemporary work atmosphere. A special highlight is the company cafeteria with an integrated co-working café. It not only provides meals but also serves as a space for exchange and collaboration. Employees were actively involved in designing the office spaces during the planning phase, resulting in a work environment that optimally supports daily tasks.

»It was especially important to us that our employees feel comfortable in the new building,« emphasizes Farnung. »Only then can we work successfully in the long term and further strengthen our position in the market.«

A project with strong signaling effect

With the new building, Ratiodata is consistently pursuing its growth strategy and demonstrating how digitalization, sustainability, and modern working environments can be combined in a logistics facility. For EPG Consulting, the project is another example of successfully implementing complex general planning projects with a focus on efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term viability.

»The opening in Koblenz is a milestone for us that shows how holistic general planning creates real added value,« concludes Wilhelms. »We are proud to be part of this forward-looking project.«
