Vanderlande Industries goes down under with TNT

08.03.2010

Once again Vanderlande Industries has shown that it is a worldwide player by securing an order from TNT in Australia.

TNT has chosen Vanderlande Industries as its partner for a new facility in Perth, Australia. This new sortation centre will be TNT’s biggest fully automated parcel sorting system in the Asia Pacific region.

According to Rudy Kwisthout, TNT’s Strategic Operations Support Manager for the Asia Pacific region, the straightforward, simple design of the solution was the main reason to choose Vanderlande.

The heart of the system is Vanderlande’s CROSSORTER 900, which is the latest extension of its range of crossbelt sorters. The CROSSORTER provides a highly flexible solution for handling mixed flows of smaller and larger postal and express parcel products. Flexibility and capacity are maximised by the use of two crossbelts on every carrier, which can operate either individually or together. Large items can span both belts, while small items need only one belt, allowing a second item to be carried on the other belt. Products spanning two belts can be turned automatically in the chute direction to minimise the required chute pitch.

The CROSSORTER is the perfect mix of state-of-the-art technology and proven performance. The combination of energy-efficiency, low maintenance and high availability ensures an optimum Total Cost of Ownership.

The system will be controlled by Vanderlande’s VITAL software suite. Today’s demands for the sorting process make IT a vital part of total system control. Vanderlande Industries’ VITAL suite offers a flexible, real-time solution for operational management: both on an everyday basis and at the planning and strategic level. The three modules of VITAL (Vital.DS, Vital.BPI and Vital.Scada) are set up in such a way that it provides a single package to handle the execution, monitoring and optimising activities.

Apart from the sortation solution, Vanderlande also will make sure that all the right tools are in place for any after-sales support that TNT may require. A service and maintenance contract therefore has also been agreed upon. “We don’t just walk away once we have handed over a system”, says Roald de Groot, Key Account Manager of Vanderlande Industries. “Our philosophy is to provide the customer with support throughout the life cycle of the system.”
