KiSoft by KNAPP supports quality assurance for groceries

29.11.2010

Companies rely on the HACCP concept and QIP to ensure the safety and quality of food products. KNAPP responds to increased demands by broadening software functionality.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)

Quality Inspection Program (QIP)

The acronym HACCP stands for hazard analysis and critical control point. HACCP is a procedure that makes a preventive contribution to greater safety in food production and processing. In contrast to other food inspections, which principally focus on the quality of the end product and general production conditions, with HCCP, the entire supply chain is monitored.

Contrary to the HACCP concept that stems from the legal perspective of food safety, quality inspections take place within the framework of QIP. A bread roll whose shape does not meet the norm does not pass the QIP check. QIP defines the acceptable range and determines in which process steps and in which form quality checks are carried out. HAVI Logistics, “The Global Lead Logistics Provider” for the food service industry and supplier of well-known customers such as McDonald’s, has opted for HACCP/QIP for ensuring food safety and quality. Together with HAVI Logistics, KNAPP is expanding the KiSoft functionalities for the end-to-end support of HACCP/QIP.

KiSoft supports HACCP and QIP

KiSoft provides end-to-end support of HACCP and QIP. With many other WMS or ERP systems, checks (HACCP/QIP) are only possible during the goods-in process. KiSoft provides the possibility of making targeted checks at several places in the process flow, thereby taking steps for quality assurance. A few examples of what could be carried out: a temperature measurement during goods integration, a quality check of crates or containers during the loading process, freely defined checks within the framework of the loading process at the supplier or directly upon delivery to the customer.

The quality manager of a warehouse has the possibility of setting parameters for software supported checks. The relationships are defined between checks and between the various types of checks with numerical and non-numerical values. Through continuous checks defective goods are identified and quickly removed from the forward process using a locking function.

A further important aspect is goods tracking past the borders of the warehouse and beyond. Regulation EU 178/2002 requires all companies participating in food production to guarantee seamless traceability between consumer and producer. KiSoft fulfils these legal requirements with the additional module Track & Trace.
