ISASTORE® at the wheel

17.12.2010

ISASTORE® optimises processes and increases the material flow in the tire warehouse.

With its seven locations and its headquarters and central warehouse in Graz, Reifen Ruhdorder is among the most established tire dealers in Styria. Optimised warehouse procedures, a high degree of stock accuracy and delivery capacity are essential in order to efficiently manage the seasonal peaks and guarantee highest customer satisfaction. The warehouse is managed by the warehouse management software ISASTORE® by ISA GmbH.

By means of ISASTORE® the customer requirements such as paperless warehousing, an improvement of the material flow, an implementation of optimized and simple warehouse processes as well as various picking procedures were successfully realized. The communication and data transfer to the ERP Navision is accomplished via an interface.

12.000 tires a day in peak times

The central Ruhdorfer warehouse in Graz measures an area of 10.000m². Depending on the customer demands and product volumes tires and wheel rims are either stored on rack storage locations, in skeleton boxes, or on ground stacking locations. Each storage location features a unique identification number or a location barcode. According to their construction type the ground conveyors are equipped either with fixed forklift terminals or mobile radio frequency terminals. The performance requirements on peak days are quite demanding: 12.000 tires are picked per day by eight order pickers and delivered to suppliers and private customers.

ISASTORE® enables a variety of picking strategies

According to the different delivery variants the general demands on picking are high. Large quantities are delivered to suppliers via forwarders, while at the same time single pieces are sent to private customers via parcel services. Due to the integration of an online portal the number of picking orders with small quantities is constantly increasing. Furthermore, the handling of complete wheel deliveries at high capacity requires special procedures. Here, picking is accomplished based on the multi-order principle. The picked tires and wheel rims are taken to assembly work places in the warehouse, where they are assembled, packed and prepared for shipping. In order to assure that the packages remain identifiable, all transport containers are furnished with barcodes for identification.

Due to constant monitoring and the optimisation of warehouse procedures with the highly efficient and flexible warehouse management system ISASTORE®, the material flow and profitability was increased. These accomplishments are essential for a tire dealer, as the business relies on the extreme seasonal peaks, and each cancelled order in the spring time and in autumn affects the spread income.
