AXELOT WMS X5 helps the largest cable manufacturer in Kazakhstan

22.12.2021

The largest Kazakh manufacturer in of telecommunications and power engineering products KCEP implements Axelot X5 at their finished goods warehouse.

Axelot WMS X5 goes live at the finished goods warehouse of KCEP in Kazakhstan.

KCEP (Kaztsentrelectroprovod LLP) is the largest manufacturer in Kazakhstan in the field of manufacturing for telecommunications and power engineering sectors. For 25 years, the company has been a driving force behind the introduction of innovations in the market of Kazakhstan in such sectors as: telecommunications, electric power, railway transport and others. The company manufactures and supplies a wide range of products: cabling and wiring products, connecting technologies, fiber-optic communication lines / SCS components.

At the end of 2019, the management of KCEP, together with AXELOT, started a warehouse design project for a new facility. The company pursued the goal of modernizing the production supply system, minimizing purchased batches, increasing the frequency of supply and reducing the amount of stock in storage. The launch of the new warehouse was the first step on this path.

The WMS project was already based on the recommendations drawn up within the framework of the earlier technological design project, which made it possible to implement optimal business processes taking into account the specifics of the warehouse.

After the work performed, one of the proposed concepts for the development of warehouse facilities was approved by the company's management and put into operation. In February 2020 AXELOT started the implementation of AXELOT WMS X5 in a new warehouse, which stores both finished products and raw materials and materials for production.

An almost 14000 sq m2 storage facility located in the city of Saran consists of a 3650 sq. meter covered warehouse and a 10,000 sq. meter outdoor storage area. The warehouse stores measured / cut-off goods, piece and oversized products - in total about 2200 active items. For storage, pallet racks, a shelf mezzanine are used, floor and street storage is also carried out.

AXELOT WMS X5 was integrated with »1C: Manufacturing Enterprise Management« corporate information system. The DATAREON ESB service data bus is used as an integration technology.

In general, the projects goal was to automate all key warehouse operations. Nevertheless, the project team had to take into account the specifics of the warehouse during production and the features of the stored products.

Thus for example cable rewinding was implemented as part of the replenishment procedure from the storage area to the coiling area. Also, during the picking of cable loads from the outside storage area, a delayed load picking process was introduced - the selection of the cable is carried out after warming up, which is especially important in winter and in the harsh continental climate of Kazakhstan. The picked orders of raw materials for end point equipment production are now moved using WMS guided transit movements through select warehouse docks.

Process automation has increased the efficiency of warehousing and reduced dependence on warehouse personnel. The number of personnel was reduced due to the optimization of processes, while the speed of execution of operations only increased.

The KCEP management appreciates the job done by the Axelot project team and is considering adding new functionality to the implemented system.
