Digital Test Environment for the Warehouse of the Future: SSI SCHAEFER Launches the WAMAS Emulation Center

With the WAMAS Emulation Center, SSI SCHAEFER is launching an innovative software solution which enables the digital replication of complex, automated warehouses and the risk-free optimization of logistics processes, all within a test server environment and with no impact on day-to-day operations.

At the heart of this innovation is a realistic emulation: after its installation on the test server, the WAMAS Emulation Center replicates the operations of the WAMAS software used in the warehouse and also emulates the PLC control of all sub-systems, thus modeling the behavior of the entire system with maximum precision. Unlike conventional simulation systems which are restricted to model-based behavior, the emulation creates a complete environment that is a faithful replication of the system, and which permits the validation of processes and control logic.

It enables integrated test scenarios and a realistic end-to-end test of all warehouse processes – from goods-in to goods-out – and also takes manual interactions in the warehouse into account. Barcodes are used to track loading units in real time – for maximum transparency along all goods movements and transport processes. Performance and stability tests ensure a high level of safety and reliable, authentic results across all systems.

Testing and optimization – without any risk

The WAMAS Emulation Center enables companies to analyze diverse operating states and to test and optimize specific aspects of warehouse behavior: for example, changed item master data, modified warehouse parameters, different order structures or when upscaling processes. Even complex scenarios such as »Black Friday« peaks can be emulated reliably. The benefit: all tests are carried out independently of the productive system – at any time and as often as required.

Training, updates and quality assurance in a single solution

In addition to process optimization, the WAMAS Emulation Center features numerous other application options. Software updates and new releases can be thoroughly tested before they are carried over to the productive system. The tool can also be used for practical training of new warehouse employees – with realistic processes in a safe environment.
