Unitechnik equips FLURO with a fully automated intralogistics system

29.06.2026

As a company grows, so do the demands on its internal logistics. FLURO, a specialist in spherical bearings and spherical heads, has turned to Unitechnik Systems GmbH for the construction of its new logistics facility.

The system integrator from Wiehl is equipping the company with a fully automated intralogistics system in which autonomous mobile robots handle the flow of materials between the warehouse, order picking, and production. The go-live is scheduled for December 2027.

Over the years, FLURO’s existing logistics center had reached its capacity limits. The facilities at the Rosenfeld site had expanded; some storage areas were organized in a decentralized manner, and stationary conveyor systems were taking up space without providing commensurate added value on that scale. The construction of the new production and logistics hall presented an opportunity to work with Unitechnik not only to create additional capacity but also to rethink material flows as a whole.

Flexibility Instead of Conveyor Technology

At the heart of the solution is a transport concept designed specifically for flexibility, which is deliberately conceived differently from traditional approaches: Instead of permanently installed conveyor lines, five autonomous mobile robots from partner Agilox handle the transport of pallets and containers between the warehouse, order picking, and production. »We deliberately decided against the traditional conveyor system approach and are instead relying on a transport concept that can be more easily adapted to changing requirements,« explains Andreas Klee, Key Account Manager at Unitechnik. The vehicles are designed to be multifunctional. Depending on the need, they transport pallets or autonomously carry a carrier that can hold up to four containers. The two-aisle pallet warehouse and the shuttle-based small-parts warehouse are also central to the facility concept. The latter ensures that FLURO achieves the desired agility and scalability in the warehouse. Unitechnik’s UniWare warehouse management system handles the overarching control and integrates the entire system with FLURO’s ERP system.

FLURO’s decision to ultimately commission Unitechnik as the general contractor was the result of an intensive bidding and design phase. »In close coordination with FLURO and the logistics planner PROTEMA, we jointly developed the concept and refined it into the final plant layout,« explains Ruben Hafer, Supply Chain Director at Unitechnik. »It was important to us not just to sell a solution, but to work with the customer to develop the right one.” The result clearly stood out from those of the competitors and ultimately convinced FLURO. “We realized that Unitechnik not only brings a wealth of experience and creativity to the table, but also a genuine dedication to the task. We simply felt we were in good hands,« sums up Reiner Höhn, Managing Director at FLURO.

Since the new facility is being built independently of ongoing operations, FLURO will be able to dismantle the existing warehouse after the go-live and use the freed-up space for further production expansions.
