OSR shuttle system for women’s lingerie

08.03.2010

VanDeVelde NV starts up the new KNAPP OSR32 system for processing medium and slow-moving articles.

The Belgian corporate group VanDeVelde designs, produces and sells luxury lingerie and swimwear under separate brand names such as Marie Jo, PrimaDonna, PrimaDonna Twist, Marie Jo L’Aventure, Marie Jo Intense, and Andres Sarda en Sarda by Andres Sarda. This listed company has more than 1,200 employees.

Till now, work at the Wichelen distribution centre near Wetteren in Belgium has been primarily carried out manually using pick carts. Starting in February, the new fast-moving collection will be picked from flow through racks, supported by Pick-to-Light. For the more efficient management of slow-moving products, VanDeVelde chose the KNAPP Shuttle-System OSR32, which operates according to the "goods-to-person" principle.

The OSR32 system is 10 metres long, over 25 modules deep and offers locations for 12,600 containers of size 60 mm. Three ultrafast lifts provide storage and retrieval of containers to and from the two picking stations. These work stations are especially ergonomic, so the operator can pick with minimal movement. The system also functions completely paperless. The Pick-to-Light and Put-to-Light displays show the operator both the quantity and the target container.
