Our Mission

Guidance in a complex market

»warehouse logistics« brings together providers and users of logistics IT in a targeted manner. Our aim is to provide guidance in a complex market and to enable well-informed decisions when selecting logistics IT systems.

Fraunhofer IML combines applied research with practical market knowledge. Developments in intralogistics and IT planning are directly incorporated into our platform, our methods and our project support. This results in solutions that are technically sound, impartial and practical.

The team at the 2025 participants' meeting

The »warehouse logistics« team is an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, engineers and logistics experts working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. As part of the Intralogistics and IT Planning department, we are at the forefront of logistics developments driven by applied research at IML.

Our mission is to precisely match logistics IT providers with logistics IT users, and we are characterised by interdisciplinary expertise and methodological competence (including intralogistics planning, lean warehousing) that we apply to logistics IT topics.

The »warehouse logistics« Advisory Board

Beirat warehouse logistics

The »warehouse logistics« Advisory Board was established in March 2009 to support the portal on a lasting basis. Drawing on its extensive knowledge of the logistics IT field, the advisory board supports the further development of the platform and strengthens the community.

Structure & organisation

  • A maximum of ten members, with a term of office of up to three years
  • Composition based on the participant structure of the Logistics IT Database
  • One to two meetings per year (spring and late summer/autumn)

Objectives

  • Further development of the »warehouse logistics« online portal
  • Early identification of trends in the logistics IT field
  • Strengthening the existing community

Our history

25 Years of Logistics IT Expertise

2000

Foundation

»warehouse logistics« was founded with the aim of bringing together customers and WMS providers in line with their specific requirements, and to provide them with advisory support during the WMS selection and implementation process.

2002

First participants' meeting

Since 2002, the »warehouse logistics« community has met once a year at the Fraunhofer IML premises. Presentations on research and practical applications, together with open discussion, provide impetus for the further development of systems and business strategies.

2009

Establishment of the »warehouse logistics« Advisory Board

The board acts in an advisory capacity. Drawing on its extensive knowledge and experience in the field of logistics IT, it supports and promotes the future development of the portal.

2010

Certification to DIN ISO 9001

Since then, the assessment and validation process has been carried out in accordance with a procedure certified to DIN EN ISO 9001. The »warehouse logistics« team continuously checks providers' details against verifiable, objective criteria.

2015

Development of VDI Guideline 3601

2022

Expansion to include the RPS and TMS system groups

With the inclusion of TMS and RPS, the original »WMS Database« becomes the cross-system »Logistics IT Database« — a comprehensive information platform for companies regarding logistics software.

2026

Expansion to include the MES system group

A Manufacturing Execution System controls, monitors and optimises manufacturing processes in real time, linking production planning directly to manufacturing. With MES, the »Logistics IT Database« incorporates systems at the interface with production.

2026

Launch of the new website

With a completely revamped, modern website, warehouse-logistics.com presents itself in a new design.
