Server log files

When you access our pages, information transmitted by your browser is recorded automatically.

We record:

  • the IP address of the accessing device
  • the date and time of the request
  • the address requested, including any parameters passed
  • the status code and the amount of data transferred
  • browser and operating system
  • the previously visited page (referrer)

The purpose is technical operation, troubleshooting, and the detection and prevention of attacks on our systems. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the security and availability of our service.

Log data is deleted automatically after no more than 7 days. Backup copies that may contain such data are overwritten by the next backup run.

We do not combine this data with other sources and do not use it to identify you as an individual.

Sign-in events

For sign-ins, sign-outs, registrations, password changes and failed attempts, we record the time, the type of event, your user account and your IP address.

The purpose is to detect and prevent attacks on user accounts, in particular automated sign-in attempts. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

These entries are deleted automatically after 7 days.

Usage statistics

To understand which content is being used, we collect pseudonymous usage statistics with the Umami software. We host it ourselves on Fraunhofer IML servers. No data is passed on to third parties.

Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It only reads a single flag that can be used to switch the measurement off.

We collect:

  • the page visited and the time of the visit
  • the previous page, if you followed a link to us
  • the approximate origin (country, region and city), derived from the IP address
  • device type and screen size
  • browser, operating system and language setting
  • nothing from the address bar after the question mark — it is stripped in your browser and never reaches us

The IP address is evaluated for this purpose only and is not stored by the analytics software. Your visit is assigned a computed identifier so that consecutive page views count as one visit. We do not combine the data with other sources and do not link it to any individual.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to develop our offering in line with actual demand and to detect technical problems.

You can object to the measurement at any time: enable the “Do Not Track” setting in your browser. We evaluate this signal — if it is set, no measurement takes place.
